    Refinements???

    Hi

I have noticed everyone on here mentions refinements?

    What is this?

Sometimes when you get to the end of the last trays, the results are still not where you or your orthodontist had hoped. In this case, new impressions can be made, and a new (usually much shorter) series of trays can be made.

Oh ok I have never heard of this and the dentist never mentioned it. Is this covered in the cost or is it extra?

For me, I'll not be getting invisalign refinments due to the time it takes for the impressions clincheck and the trays to come back to Glasgow but my ortho has included the "train tracks" in my overall price and said i will more than likely end up in them for maybe 2-3 months at the end to get a perfect result. There is no extra charge at my ortho for this as it's included in the treatment plan. A dentist (not an ortho) wont be able to do this but maybe the refinments will be included with the invisalign package for this.

Mine will cost me 250 quid more if I need it... Sometimes I feel that they do that on purpose to charge you extra.. Apparently not in your case.

As mentioned in this thread: Questions about the refinement process, a look at Align Tech's recent docs suggests that in the USA (it may differ elsewhere - when two refinements were included in the price for Full Invisalign in the USA, as best I recall it was only one in the UK) the policy is now as follows:

    Invisalign Express
    One refinement available for purchase
    No mid-course correction

    Invisalign Teen
    Up to three refinements included
Mid-course correction: Available (fee may apply)
    Six free individual-arch replacement aligners
    Eruption compensation
    Compliance indicators
Power RidgesTM (for lingual root torque)

    Invisalign Assist
    Up to three refinements included
    No mid-course correction

    Invisalign Full
    Up to three refinements included
Mid-course correction: Available (fee may apply)
    Anterior-only treatment option available

Of course, this is what Align Tech include in their pricing/contract with the individual dentist/orthodontist. I don't know whether they are in any way compelled to pass that along to the patient.

Hi there, I think I get one refinement included in Australia, but possibly this may vary by orthodontist. Mine says that he will finish them off in metal braces also, if you need him to, all included in the price.
