Just make sure you are sitting up straight, it'll help
Ive heard the Invisalign impressions are a little different than just metal braces impressions and I've also heard some comments about gagging and being uncomfortable during the process so I was just wondering what should I expect on this long awaited day!

Relax. Breathe through your nose.
The molds are a breeze... some technicians are better at it than others, so don't be suprised if it takes them more than one shot to get that perfect mold!
I thought Invisalign uses impressions like these:

Metal braces top and bottom - Second Time

Hi there,
It really isn't that bad in my opinion. A lot better than having a filling, say.
I have described it all in detail on my blog:
My Hollywood Smile: Impressions and records for Invisalign.
Just try not to get too worried about it, and it will be a lot easier. Believe me, when it comes to all things dental I am a terrible baby, but I found getting the impressions done fine.

I had both types of impression taken, and you're right. Now, I don't want to be scaring you, but you should be aware of how it turns out for some people.
The plaster used for regular moulds was a bit gritty, but fairly comfortable. They also have a range of plates and pick the right size to fit your mouth.
The Invisalign moulds were taken using a rubbery dough on a standard sized plate (which felt quite big) - and a lot goes onto the plate too!
The bottom set was ok, but there was so much on the top plate that it was touching the soft palette at the back of the top of my mouth. This made me gag and I was sick down myself. Luckily, they put a plastic bib on me which had a pouch at the bottom, which caught most of it. Also, I'm lucky it was an early appointment and I'd skipped breakfast, so it was mainly liquid.
They stayed professional though (apparently it's quite common) and left the plate in until the mould had set, then cleaned me up afterwards.
So be warned, and don't eat beforehand!
I just remember thinking - thanks goodness I'm not hungover! I didn't find it too bad...but just remember to keep taking deep breaths.
I must say I found the thing they used to put on the attachments far worse....I just felt really claustrophobic.....its not painful...I just didn't like the feeling...It prob has alot to do with the manner of your ortho too. My dentist uses something similar but is always asking if i'm ok...my ortho just ploughs on regardless!!!
I agree geogchick, getting the attachments was worse. Much worse.

I almost put myself to sleep by meditating. Just relax and try not to think about it.
It was a bit uncomfortable for me since I was still recovering from having my wisdom teeth removed (I was trying hard not to gag) but not painful. I had to have my bottom molds taken twice. Was all done in less than an hour, maybe even 45 minutes.
