    Advice Needed please

    Hi Guys

I had the 6 month braces put on in january to cut a long story short the tops are now off and the bottoms coming off Monday.

The tops are straight but with gaps and the bottoms we are waiting 7 weeks for gaps to close so ortho is thinking that the 6 months have brought me as far as they can.

I have been given the option of filling the gaps or invisalign for about 2 months to close the gaps.

I chose invisalign therein lies my question.

Im going away for a fantastic holiday 1st 2 weeks in august and want to be able to eat chew and drink what I want when I want without pain or having to brush constantly.

What is invisalign like for this, can you still bite, and chew or are the teeth loose like the metal braces.

I have the option to just retain my teeth till after the hol and then start the treatment I would really appreciate you thoughts on this please as I have to ring back ortho today

    Thanks a lot
    Polar xx

Polar invisalign is another way of moving teeth, so if your teeth are having to be moved to get to better places, then they have to be loose to achieve this. To wear invisalign correctly takes more discipline than bonded braces, due to the need to keep the aligners in for at least 22 hours a day. While you have the aligners in, you can drink water, but not eat or drink anything else. The reason for this, is that any food that gets between the aligners and your teeth can damage the enamel of your teeth, leading to decay.

If you ... want to be able to eat chew and drink what I want when I want without pain or having to brush constantly. ... I recommend you wait to continue your treatment till after your holiday. This may mean that your treatment takes a little longer, but it should mean you can ... eat chew and drink what I want when I want

Good luck with your decision, your teeth and your holiday!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

That was my thinking on it so I think I am better off waiting, I have been so retricted since getting the braces on that to have to have my hols with the same restriction would not be a good idea for me

Its only going to prolong my treatment a couple of months and my teeth now are a million times better than before the brackets came off

Is there soreness after every tray change ?

there is soreness (although it gets better) everytime you change trays - they have to move your teeth; I've been told it's similar to the soreness, tightness or pressure you feel when you have traditional braces tightened.

You cannot eat anything with your tray in. It's just not possible.

You can drink, but it's not recommended.

I agree with Sunny; wait until you have a few months you can dedicate to this. I've been at it for a year and a half - trust me, two months will fly by!

    Hi there,
I found the soreness was worse on the beginning few trays, these days I barely get any, and my teeth are definitely moving!

However you need to be fairly disciplined with these things, so I would just wait, enjoy your holiday and get them when you get back.
