Lucy there is much debate about retainers and I think the best retainers for each person are the ones their ortho recommends.
Where I work, the ortho's do recommend the bonded retainers mostly for people who've had gaps or heavy crowding in the front of their arches. The bonded retainers are only recommended for people with A1 hygiene, due to the need for additional hygiene while having them fixed. Plus there are some very hard/chewy foods that need to be avoided, as they can cause the bonding to come away.
People with bonded retainers still need removable retainers, as the bonded retainers will not retain all the teeth.
There are advantages and disadvantages for every type of retainer and the important thing to remember is that without your teeth being retained in some way, they will move!
Talk to your ortho Lucy and find our what they think will be best for you! Good luck!![]()
