    Just started invisalign

    Hello all!

I just started my first tray of 26 on the bottom and 20 on the top on Monday. It's my 4th day now and I'll admit I dont want to quit quite as much as the first day but it still seems like it was a huge mistake! My tongue is cut up from the rough edges and I have a lisp. While I will admit It's not AS bad today as it was Monday, it still sucks, especially when my teeth aren't actually that bad, just a little crowding on the bottom...Reading all of your stories and support has comforted me, knowing it will get easier gives me some hope! So thanks for being here!

    Here goes nothing...

Good Luck Laura, honestly it really does get better. I'm at the stage where I prefer the trays in rather than out, not coz of the pain or anything like that, I just like the shine off my teeth when they're in, they look so clean and white esp in a photo (other users are going to think I'm nuts I'm sure for saying that lol). The first few trays where you get used to drooling , in out, in out for food and cleaning is a nightmare but it becomes easier and you learn tricks for cleaning in private or eating and drinking with friends etc. Stick with it. Everyone on here is great support if you dont get much at home, feel free to have a rant or whatever, theres always an encouraging word on here to make you feel better. It'll all be worth it.

Laura, I felt the same way. In fact, with each tray, I thought I had made a huge mistake until I got to about the 3rd tray. Tray 5 was little difficult because it felt bulky but I knew I only had to wear it for 14 days and I would be on to the next one. Now, I'm on tray 6 and loving it! I've started to see improvements and I've become quite used to wearing them. The trays are just part of me now. I kept reading all the postings and they help a lot! Don't give up! I kept reminding myself of what made me decide to get braces and it was the fact that my teeth were crooked and I was always self conscious about my smile. Funny thing is that people have always complimented me on my smile and I always felt like saying..."ya, if only my teeth were straight!" All my life I've been admiring other people's straight teeth and now, in about 5 months, I will hopefully be able to admire my own.....I think I already am, even though there are just tiny improvements right now.

With time, your lisp will go away and your tongue will know better than to keep getting caught up in the tray! Don't give up...before you know it, you'll see that your teeth have started to move and that will be motivating in and of itself!

Had my updated clincheck appointment yesterday. I'm expecting 26U and 27L. Hopefully the trays will get arrive soon. Not too excited about the possible pain but we need to grind it out and think about how nice our teeth are going to look in the future. I wish you luck with your treatment!

Laura, Laura, Laura hang in there! You sound very similar to me. It will get easier, you have to believe that. I just started tray 4 today and they have become apart of my routine that it is no longer bothersome. I too thought I was making a huge mistake during tray 1 and questioned it once during tray 2 but once on tray 3 I hit a turning point. Eventually your brain will tell your tongue to make adjustments and it will be fine. Right now my left cheek gets caught on the lower tray, so I'm trying to find ways to make sure I can avoid that. You will learn tricks and what works for you.

It will be worth it in the end.

Hope things have already started improving Laura, everyone on here will tell you they all felt similar at some point or other. Once you get in a routine, it's fine and time flies!

Jesus it hurts so much to take them in and out. I just got them. Should I take them off them put them back on a few times to get used to them or should I leave it to get used to them?

Blitz you are better to leave them alone. The best piece of advice I got on here was to always change to the next set at night, after dinner so that they are on for quite a while before they have to come out again for breakfast!

Blitz, you only got one set? I'm confused....

Laura, have you tried the nail file trick? My ortho was adamant that they shouldn't hurt. There can be pressure but should be no pain. If they are rubbing your tongue you probably have a sharp edge that could be filed away either by yourself or your ortho.
It really does get better. After six months mine are like old shoes, very comfy!

Weeyin, I agree, my teeth look WAY better with them in. Not sure why, they just look fuller and more Hollywood!

I too thought, oh my..its gonna be a looooooong 9 months of this. I am one of the lucky ones who really didn't feel pain, just a slight pressure and then it was gone within a half hour or so. Nothing to be a big deal. About the 3rd tray I was getting used to it and like weeeyin, I prefer the feel of having them in. I do however, on occassion during my treatment, have problems with lisping and one tray even spitting a little. It all depends on where the teeth are located at that time. Right now only two teeth are hitting and I have to eat real slow. A good thing! Two trays left on my upper, done with the bottoms. I will need refinements for my bottom but I don't think it'll be many.
good luck. hang in there. momma

I just got my first set of allignments/tray yesterday. I can totally relate; all of the obstacles I encountered in less than 24 hours of wearing them made me question my decision to get them in the first place. My teeth aren't that bad either. Hopefully it'll be worth it in the end; and people say it gets better and it gets easier to take them out and put them back in (I so hope that's true). It should get less painful too. Good luck to everyone who is trusting the fate of their teeth with the alleged 'powers' of invisalign. lol.

Take a look at some before/after pictures. havingitdoneintheUK has some great pictures of the first set of trays and the last. It's amazing the change.

It does get better, and your teeth will look better when you're done.
