    whitening with invisalign

hi, i just got my attachments off for my wedding along with my home whitening kit. when it was given to me, i was instructed to put the gel on the front of my trays. however, i find a lot of it gets stuck in the attachment wells. is it ok for me to place the gel right on my teeth instead?? I just don't want to end up with uneven whitening if I can help it.

Oh your wedding must be getting close now!

I too have a gel I put inside the front of my trays. Have done 3 treatments and not had a problem with the attachments bubbles. Maybe put a tiny bit extra in the attachment bubbles?

I have had problems with the tips of my back teeth looking like they have had a french manicure but it wore off after a couple of days thankfully!

Similar problem, but went with it and it looks okay. The biggest problem I find is whitening the tops of the teeth by the gums...

thanks - wedding is the saturday after next so getting close!

actually i called one of my friends who is hygienist today and she said it should be fine to put the gel right on the tooth. I did that with a toothpick this evening and noticed that I didn't get as much in the wells.

Hi there, I did mine before attachments so can't comment on those, but I did find that it is best to do 2 days on 2 days off, otherwise my gums got sore.

Good luck for the big day!

^ my doc suggested I whiten twice a day for a half hour each time and so far I haven't had any sensitivity but will keep your tip in mind if it does happen. that's a good tip.

Congrats! I can't mine on until my wedding is over (sept 2010) due to cost. whitening on general can make everything more sensitve and putting it directly on the teeth is sure to do exactly that. I'd consult first.

ouch, straight on the teeth! I used whitening gel in the last week of my final tray after getting my attachments of. I found that the gel did collect in the wells but it still whitened my teeth evenly.

I used Polanight or Polawhite (forget the exact name!) and my teeth were mega sensitive the day after. I only whitened twice as couldnt stand the pain the next day. Im plucking up the courage to do it again before my summer vacation though

I waited until I had finished Invisalign. I got a deal when they sent off for my retainer on getting the whitening trays made up - they are very different to Invisalign, made out of rubbery material. I know I had to pay a bit more but I feel it is worth it as they protect my gums and I don't waste any precious gel on getting stuck where the attachments were!

I used Poladay - once a day for 45 mins, for 5 days. I then had a break for the weekend to enjoy my red wine etc then have done 3 more days this week to finish off a couple of teeth that were darker than the others. I used Sensodyne toothpaste for a week leading up to it and during the whitening and haven't had any sensitivity which was a nice surprise!

Glad that the whitening is working out for you both, uk and kezza.

I actually ended up applying a bit directly to the teeth that had attachments (with a tooth pic and only on the center of the tooth) and I didn't experience too much sensitivity. I only used it for 1/2 an hour at a time though so that may have helped.

Milliondollarsmile - congrats. I was glad when it was all over too. It may be worth speaking to your ortho/dentist about. I know $500 for a whitening session may be offputting but the at home method is a lot more affordable and they may be willing to remove your attachments for your wedding. Just a thought!
