    Receding Gums!

So I've noticed the past year my teeth have been getting more and more sensitive to cold stuff. Now I can't even bite into a room temperature grape without getting some discomfort!

My question is, does invisalign have anything to do with my gums? Maybe indirectly? I've also noticed a ridge on my teeth where my gums used to be. But I also suspect that when I got my attachments put in the lady that did it was so rough my gums swelled up and I couldn't brush my teeth properly for a week. Could that have permanently caused them to recede?

It's really hard to say. I'm' getting kind of worried because I want straight teeth, but what's the point in having them when your gums aren't healthy?

Anyone have sensitive gum issues? I'm getting desperate.

Gums can recede for many reasons, although I doubt it was because of the swelling after your attachments were put on ... although of course it could be.

Gums can recede due to the way a person brushes them ... they need to be brushed very gently and with a soft brush. Teeth moving can cause gums to recede, getting older can also cause this, as can gum disease.

I recommend you talk to your ortho about your gums and ask for his/her advice ... or your dentist. Also it should help if you brush with a toothpaste designed for sensitive teeth, like sensodyne.

I've had gum issues due to me not flossing for many years. I had gum disease (minor) and after that was treated, I learned about the need to floss and have been 'a floss once daily' person since then. I use sensodyne total whitening toothpaste and find I rarely have any issues with sensitivity.

Good luck with getting your sensitivity to stop!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

I've just recently started to notice some small gaps at the top (bottom, closest to the gums) of the teeth which weren't there before. I hope it isn't some form or recidivism from wearing the invisalign.

I am in traditional metal brackets and I also have noticed gum recession that was not there before. Seems it is because the teeth are moving.
