First try put on upper doesn't "click" anymore?

    Hi everyone!
The first time I put my upper tray in at the ortho's office, I could hear the both upper and lower trays "click" into place. This morning when I put them on again, the bottom still clicks, but the top does not click. Did the top retainer somehow warp and got loose?
Well I'm just starting my journey and I'm scheduled for 13 top and 11 bottom. I'm supposed to visit the dentist once month for a new tray. If I lose my retainer, does that mean that I"ll be without a retainer for 2 weeks until the ortho can order another retainer?
    Thank you!

To stop a little confusion, the trays are either trays or aligners, not retainers, the retainer is what you get to wear when you're finished treatment. So I'm presuming you're talking about your trays / aligners?

From my experience as I wore my trays they stopped "clicking into place", the click was mostly only at the beginning of each tray where I was forcing it over the buttons or attachments as they're known, as time went on each tray fitted better and the "click" stopped, if it doesnt fall out your mouth i'm sure you'll be perfectly fine.

I'm a bit confused as to how you'd "loose" a tray? Are you planning on taking them out and leaving them places? You get a little box to put it in so shove it in your pocket or handbag or whatever (not sure if you're a guy or girlie). Yes if you loose it you'll be without a tray to wear and chances are you'll not get a new one ordered without much expense, its not a simpe overnight job to make these things. I also assume you're paying a lot of money for treatment unless somone is paying it for you. For what I paid I treated my trays with a lot of respect, cleaning, keeping them safe (all but one, but that was a BIG accident) to me they were like gold and very valuable. So unless you're out on a night out and get drunk and loose it or anything silly like that you'll surely not loose it, after all it should be IN your mouth for 20-22 hours + a day.

    Does this help any?

Yes, thank you for clearing up the confusing terms.
I heard that invisalign hurts when you put it on, but I haven't had any major pains. A tiny bit of discomfort and sore tooth here and there. On top of the upper aligner not clicking into place, I was starting to worry that my aligners were messed up

I was just concerned with loosing the aligners due to a bizarre mistake.

Always keep your previous aligners so that should something untoward happen to your current ones, you always have some to pop in and keep your teeth at that position until a replacement is ordered by your ortho.

    Good thinking Kezza.

Invisalign - well mine...didn't hurt as such, a little pressure in places, the odd oooouuuccchhhhhh when getting a new tray in or out for the first time but give it 20 -30 mins it settles down. It's all worth it in the end.

My trays get significantly looser after the first couple of days. In my very early trays before attachments I could lift my bottom aligner with my tongue!

My orthodontist told me to keep all my old trays. Firstly, so you have something to wear should you lose one, and also because occasionally when treatment goes off track he makes people go back an aligner or two.

    Good luck!

With regards to losing a tray, my orthodontist has me keep the trays I take out in the red box, and the current trays in the blue box. The red is my "emergency back up" - if something happens, I'm to call her, and she'll either have me put the last set in, or if it is close enough to the change day, then she'll have me put the next set in.

It's not just an issue of losing them either; they could rip to the point where they aren't doing any good - they may occassionally rip, but normally it's not a big deal. Just remember to call your ortho whenever that happens.

I would highly recommend to anyone doing the program to hold on to the prior set when you take them out, just in case.
