    Loose Trays

    Hi there
I know everyone says don't put the next set of trays in till the 2 weeks are up buy my trays the past 2 changes are loose after a day and waiting 2 weeks seems ridiculous.
I can get them out with my tongue nearly now and haven't had to use the aligner remover tool thing since my 1st set of trays when it was like pulling my teeth out of my head
I have 10 trays so 20 weeks and my ortho gave them all to me so I don't have to see him again till Im on the last tray
What do you reckon - can I put them in every week instead?

It is not a good idea to put your trays in before the two week period is up. Just because the trays are loose, doesn't mean your teeth are done moving. Forcing them to move too quickly will cause root problems, which is bad.

Follow your orthodontists advice - he's the trained professional, none of use are (with the exception of Dr. Tam, of course). If you think two weeks is too long, call him and set up an appointment to talk to him about it. Show him how loose they are.

Most of us here, especially those without attachments, find that the trays are very loose after just a few days. But it's all part of the process.

Polar you're told to wear aligners for two weeks for a good reason. If you consider this information may be incorrect, give your ortho a call and let your professional make the decision for you.

Pumpkin is so right about why it's important not to force teeth to move any faster than is necessary.

    Good luck!

Don't force your teeth to move like that. I have 11 upper and 13 lower. Theoretically I could go through one tray every 2 weeks and be done in half a year or so. My top tray got loose on the 3rd day. If i didn't have the attachments, it would probably fall off. I'm going the slow route ( about a year) to make sure that the results are good. Don't rush anything, you're paying a lot of money so be patient

On a side note: I wonder why your ortho gave you all your trays. I'm supposed to come back to my ortho every 4 weeks to get a new tray.

350 there is a search function provided, but many people don't use it, or write their post without checking if a topic has been written about.

I think one reason this topic does come up so often is due to human nature and the desire for things to be fixed instantly. Many people today have lost the skill of patience, which I guess relates to how many of us live.

Only an experienced orthodontist can tell you if your teeth are moving according to schedule, as they are the ones who have planned the order, direction, and velocity of the tooth movement.

We do have a couple of patients whom I have accelerated onto a 10-day wear schedule, but that is due to exaggerated, slow movements planned because of perceived issues with patient compliance. As they are in fact extremely compliant, they achieve the desired movement within the 10-day period.

20 weeks is not a long time to move teeth, with Invisalign or braces... Good luck!

I agree with all of the above. Also, I have noticed that whilst some trays are loose after 2 days every now and then I get one that is still tight after a weeks wear.
The truth is that if you push through too fast you can damage your roots. Honestly, it isn't worth it. I have been wearing these things 9 months now and they don't bother me at all any more. I could wear them an extra year and I would barely care. It is just a case of getting used to them and eventually you will. It would be awful to go through all of this and then lose a tooth.
Having said that mention it to your ortho. They might think you are suitable for an accelerated program.
    Good Luck.

Dr. Tam, so what does Align Tech do, just make the aligners? I thought it was the computer program that decided when/where/how the teeth should go. If this is the case, now I know why it is important to pick out the right dr!

This has been answered all over the board before . Aligntech puts together computer simulations and fabricates aligners.

Computer simulations are created by people who do not have any background in orthodontics. It is up to the doctor to communicate how the teeth should move with the technician. Unfortunately, the majority of doctors do not have a lot of experience with Invisalign or orthodontics for that matter, leading to problems with treatment. They rely on the simulation they receive to determine if aligner treatment will work. However, a video that shows teeth becoming straight doesn't mean that the movements are posisble physically and biologically. The software is still not developed enough to know what works, and what doesn't, so the element of doctor experience is critical.

Most failed treatment is due to one of two things:

    1. Improper treatment planning by the doctor.
    2. Lack of compliance by the patient with wearing aligners.
