    Whitening after treatment

So mid Dec I will get the attachments removed and my teeth filed down abit where I have some jagged edges. Then it's time for retainers, yippee!

Has anyone in the uk had whitening done and if so:
    1. What Brand?
    2. What was the cost?
    3. What was your experience?

I have heard some horror stories so want be extra cautious about this!

    Thanks

I had my whitening as part of my Invisalign package at my dentists. It was called Polanight which was a gel i put into my trays overnight.

I found it made my teeth ULTRA sensitive the next day, to the point of being quite painful so I stopped whitening after two nights. I've kept the gel though so i may use it once every 6-8 weeks and put up the pain (as it was VERY effective, even after just two applications).

The tooth pain was only in the 2 or 3 teeth that were already sensitive, so I guess if you dont suffer from sensitivity, you will be fine

Great news ... you must be buzzing with excitement!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

I used the same stuff at Kezza - Polanight. It worked a treat over about 4 nights, i've used it a few times now over the last month /6weeks. I was only given 2 little tubes as a freebie from the ortho and it's almost finished now. To order 10 tubes its about £65 and can be used in your final tray or retainer tray, I will order more very soon as it was effective. I have to admit I was the same as Kezza......MEGA sensitive the next day - ouch the pain of the sentitive teeth for about 24 hours after using it was awful and I'm dreading doing it again....BUT friends did comment how white my teeth had got over the 4 applications i'll defo go through the pain to do it again as I believe it was worth it. I cant wait for this year's Christmas party pics to be me smiling with straight white teeth.

I read on the internet never to use anything greater than 22% gels, polanight is 22% and it's defo strong enough for whitening, all these 40% gels on ebay etc i'd be a bit wary about now, as the article I read said over 22% can do damage. It might be much cheaper on these auction sites but I'd be wary of them. I'm sure somone can provide further details on here.

Thanks for the replies. So how many times would you need to put it on to notice a difference? How often would it need re-doing - every 6 months/year etc? I had been expecting you to say about 250-300 quid so 65 sounds like a bargain!

Thanks for the info on % Weeyin, that is the bit that I had been worrying about, good to know polanight is 'ok'!

Cheers Sunny, I am certainly looking forward to the end of the road, whilst it's been fine it will be nice not to have such ordered meal times once I am down to night time retainers! Might even lose weight again with being able to graze instead of stuffing it all in at once!

I noticed a difference after one application, my ortho said that after that initial whitening, some people tend to do one application per month (you get around 4 applications per tube). Good deal I reckon!!

That does sound good value then. Do you both buy it from the ortho or elsewhere?

You can actually get it off the internet just by typing polanight into google you'll find it easy enough esp as you dont need trays. 10 tubes are £65 so 4 apps per tube = 40 apps. You'll get to know yourself how much or little you need, a little goes a long way and I was told just to use it on the front 6-8 teeth. I find a session of 4 nights gave me a sparkly white smile I was happy with.

I got mine free through my Ortho as part of my invisalign 'package', though I think he charges more than what Weeyin's found on the internet, that's a bargain!!

    Hi there,
I used Nitewhite. It was fantastic, my teeth look way better than they did before. There are pics on my blog if you want to see the result. You can buy if from amazon for about $12 I think although I got it from my ortho.
