Hello,
I was wondering if someone could tell me usually how many Invisalign attachments are needed...
I received my 3rd set of trays last night and they have a TON of attachment points on them... A total of 8 on my top tray alone... And what I'm particularly not happy about is there is one on my right front tooth...! When I look in the mirror, all I see is this big dot on my tooth...!
I was told to wear these for a week and then I go in to get my attachments put on... Is it possible to have the dentist take some of these off (especially the one on my front tooth) and then get new trays made...? Or am I being too picky...?
No, they are there for a reason. It escapes me at the moment, but i am sure someone here knows. sorry.
I just wanted to reply and bump this up. I had 9 attachments on different areas of the tooth. i.e. one would be in the middle of one tooth, one on the side of another...etc
You know it is there so you see it like a wart on your nose. Hardly, if anyone will notice.
good luck!
I wouldnt worry too much, theyre really not as noticable as you think. Making new trays via Invisalign would mean a new order, so I dont think that would be possible.
I had 8 attachments on my lowers and 3 on my uppers. Although 8 sounds a lot, I've heard of people who had 20+attachments (total) so i was pretty grateful for my measely 11!
I found that if people did notice i was having ortho work done and asked questions, they were always inquisitive as to what I was having done, no one reacted badly so its really not as bad as it seems. Because at the start of your treatment you are so consumed with how your mouth looks, its really not as noticable for everyone else.
Attachments are required to allow the aligner to grip the tooth better, espeically during movements such as rotations or extrusions. They are also necessary to help anchor a unit of teeth against another such as during intrusion or mesial/distal movement.
If you trust your provider, trust that there is a reason why each one of them is present. As stated, they really aren't that obvious, especially when the aligners are in.... which they should be... 22 hours of the day.

I had 11 JoeC, all on my front teeth!
Like Momma says, you see them all the time but other people don't!
I work with teenagers and it was only the ones who currently have braces and are 'tooth obsessed' that I would see catch a 2nd glance!
You will get used them and before you know it it will all be over![]()

No need to worry, like most have mentioned, they aren't nearly as bad as you think. I have 14 attachments, yes 14! 10 on my top like a crown that I wear with pride-second premolar on the left right around to second premolar on the right and 4 on the bottom, 1 on each canine and premolar on the left and right.
You will do great!
