Invisalign in London (overjet) - 2 consultations, 2 different opinions..

    Hi all,
    I am new on here!
After 10 years of not having any orthodontic treatments have decided to do something about my overjet and crowded lower teeth (again). I had two Invisalign consultations so far, and both told me no problem to "fix" me, but the first one said they have to extract two of my upper teeth (no. 4s probably), otherwise there would be no space to pull them back.
But the second one said its not good practise to do that and anyway not neccessary, he can achieve a very good result.
I am confused now, luckily I have 2 more consultations - one of them with an orthodontist who will take X-Rays etc, I will have to pay for this consultation, the other ones were free.
Which makes me wonder if they might try to sell Invisalign, and tell everyone their case is no problem in order to get the contract?

Does anyone have any experience with Invisalign providers in London, are Orthodontics better in general, and any experience with treating overjets?

    hi mona, welcome!

I am not in the UK, but there are plenty here who are and those who have had extractions done prior to entering their Invisalign treatment as well.
One thing I notice however is that the second one said that it was not necessary, that he can achieve a "very good result". Perhaps you would get a "perfect result" with the extraction, it is all in what your desire would be for your outcome.
You have two more consultations, I would go with the popular vote and your instincts on your treatment. There is an ortho on this site, Dr. Tam who provides excellent advice. Do a search and find his postings. His name is MarkhamCentreorthodontics, check it out, he may answer all your questions and then some. I am sure the good people here as well will help you.
    good luck!

    thanks mommamorin!
his words were not exactly "very good" as opposed to perfect, and he didn't even consider extractions would be an option! I will see what the other two are saying, I hope not something altogether different again!

hi and welcome to the forums. i had an overjet and a few consultations myself. at least one suggested extractions. i decided to go with invisalign and no extractions. fast forward a about a year later - things are going slowly but my overjet problem has been resolved for the most part.

    thanks lemon tree..
Have a consultation with an orthodontist on thursday, and one with a platinium invisalign provider on Friday, by then I hopefully know more and can make a decision - or else will book more consultations for next week. But I believe 4 consultations should be enough? difficult enough to fit them in with my work! I hope one of them can convince me 100%, the 2 so far did leave some doubts.. things like finance come into play as well, some offer interest free credit, others you need to pay more or less upfront.

I am also wondering if it will be better to go with an experienced Invisalign provider, or someone that is an ortho, but might have less Invisalign experience?
I am just too impatient I guess and need to wait what they say!

    Hi there,
My personal opinion is that an ortho is best, and preferably an experienced one. I had an 8-9mm overjet (I'm on 24/34) and it is resolving well. I was also told to have extractions by some orthos and not others. I didn't and my ortho made the room by widening my arches instead which was something that I really wanted.

    Whatever you do, good luck.

thanks myhollywoodsmile! I had my consultation with the Ortho and I decided on having the treatment there.
i also have an overjet of about 8mm but mine results from a "sceletal dissorder", the lower jaw is set back. i had surgery over 10 years ago to correct this, but they didn't move it forward enough, and also the teeth alignment isn't anymore how it used to be as i never got retainers after i had to wear braces for about 2 years.
The ortho wouldn't recomment another surgery as the problem is not severe, but will "camouflage" the problem. I had a couple of options to choose from and went with invisalign uppers and ice braces on the lowers. He said he couldn't get a good enough result with invisalign on the lowers.
I am glad I didn't go with the Invisalign dentists, they didn't really analyse the problem, and now i can see it would have been wrong to extract teeth on the uppers, what one of them suggested, when the lowers is the main problem..
