    Tray #3

Put in tray #3 this evening and every time I ask myself why I did this to myself??? The pressure is just so strong and it is not easy dealing with an energetic toddler while trying to get used to the new tray in my mouth. I know, it'll be better in a few days, but this is gonna be a tough 12-18 months.

I met with my dentist today and I had a filling done on my left lower molar. He also noticed this spot on one of my teeth on the UL (the one right next to the left front tooth). It seems a little dark, but he said it is not a cavity. We're not sure what it is, but he said we'll keep an eye on it. I sort of worries me a bit.

He also did some IPR and that was uncomfortable, but I know it is necessary to make sure my teeth can move. I just still do not feel very comfortable with even the idea of IPR on healthy teeth. But it was either IPR or completely removing two teeth and he thought IPR would give us a better end result.

I wish this entire thing was already over, but I just started.

I know, I'll feel better tomorrow. Thanks for listening.

Hi, just in regards to the dark spot on your tooth....did your dentist take xrays? My UL (next to front tooth) went a greyish colour & a little around the gum. My ortho did an ice test & took an xray....I now need a root canal as the nerve has died. This tooth always felt the most pressure on it when starting new trays and before invisalign the tooth was fine. I had not knocked the tooth so my ortho is unsure of what has caused it. Hope your tooth is fine.

I ask myself the same thing sometimes! The whole process can be too attention consuming, but when I put on a new tray last night (MUCH easier than the last tray), I was able to begin to see straighter lower teeth (not much to see on the uppers yet) and that was enough to give me the boost I needed. Since you are not as far along in the process, it can be emotionally tougher, but you will see progress soon, and that will help you. My daughter is a teenager, but when I had my wisdom teeth out when she was much younger, she loved to help me feel better by bringing me ice, sitting together to watch television, eating ice cream with me, and the like. When I was fully recovered, she tried to "recreate" this time because it had become such a special thing for her. In fact, now when I put in a new tray, she joins me in the bathroom and cheers me along!

Maybe also this new tray was a little less comfortable because of the new filling that wasn't there when your trays were made?

If your dentist is keeping an eye on the problem tooth, that should give you comfort. That being said, if you feel like you need a more definite answer, ask him to take an x-ray. I am a hyper patient and I only feel better when I have as much information as possible about a situation. If you are the same way, you might feel relieved to have the dentist search a little deeper for you. The spot could be simply a stain of some sort, too.

I do think that IPR is less worrisome than it sounds. Removing a healthy tooth seems more extreme. From my understanding, the IPR mostly just removes a tiny amount of the tooth AND generally what is removed would have been naturally worn away if the tooth was properly in contact with the next tooth. I have yet to have it done, but expect too in the future.

    Hang in there!

be careful, keep a good eye on your teeth. I have been done with Invisalign for months now and need two root canals and crowns as a result. Very worth it to me though for my nice new smile (thanks for good insurance coverage :-) )

I thought long and hard about this tooth and actually the 'spot' has been there for quite a few years. I don't have any pain or sensitivity in this particular tooth. Nothing showed up on the x-ray that he took of this tooth. I guess, we'll keep an eye on it. Tray #3 is now feeling much better. I can already see some shifting of my teeth. I have one front tooth that sticks out a bit and I cannot wait for this particular tooth to be aligned with the others.

I want to add that the two teeth that need root canals and crowns are teeth that have VERY OLD mercury fillings in them. oh, probably 40 years or more old. I didn't want to imply that the cause was from Invisalign itself, I ain't no spring chicken and would probably need to be done soon anyway.

I thought I read that amalgam fillings were good for maximum 10-12 years.

Ive had mine since the 7th and 8th grade (late 1960's), I have 6 of them, 4 still looking good and going strong!

I remember because that was the first time I ever went to the dentist in my life. It is vivid in my memory the time frame as I had to walk 4 miles one way just to get to the dentist's office and it took over a year to get all the work done I needed. Since my first job in my 20's, after college and I got insurance, every 6 months it was for me!
you kids got it made, lol.
