    Unhappy trays not fitting tight?

well, i got my first set of invisalign put in last friday- a week ago exactly. i went in today for my attachments.

i was happy when i left because they made my trays fit tighter- never thought i'd say i was happy about "tightness" ((horrible pain my first 3 days of invisalign.. all i wanted them to be was more loose, haha))

but anyway.. they are SO much harder to get off now... and my lower tray (back right corner) feels loose now? like my tongue can slip a little under it --

i think its from trying to remove the trays.. they are a P.I.T.A to remove now... it takes so much effort to get the lower aligner off

    anyone ever experience this?

(edit: I am asking: has anyone experience their trays feeling a little loose? when i bite down with my back teeth it presses it down (the tray) but then pops up a little bit? im scared i stretched it? ahh)

Great to hear how you're progressing .

Each new set of trays is supposed to be the way your teeth should be, two weeks or so from the day you started them. They won't conform to your teeth until at least a few days into the new aligner. Therefore, don't be too concerned about a "popping" aligner unless it continues to do so as you're about to change trays. Good luck!

I also can slip my tongue on the front part of the trays, more so on the second week. I also wonder if it's the result of taking them on and off constantly.

I have had a few trays that have felt sort of, well, *spongy* after putting them in for the first time. That has always subsided after a few days, and the trays settled. However, as the two weeks progress, my trays feel different on different days (as do my teeth!). I am 9 days into a tray now, and when I took my aligner off this morning, my front tooth was not happy! It really is difficult to predict the movement. Also, because each set of trays might focus on moving different teeth, the initial fit might feel different from set to set.

I think the only thing that can stretch or change the shape of the aligners is hot water or the like, so not to worry.

I have a similar "sentence" to you (7L/12U), TeeWee, and I have found that a few trays have made some really big moves, and others seem to just be "preparing" for bigger moves by creating spaces. Those trays always feel different to me at first. Also, the trays seem to sort of "snap" in and out with attachments (I have seven).

As long as your ortho is tracking your progress, all should be fine!

I have a habit of splitting my trays slightly, they usually feel loose and bouncy at the back then, but they still seem to fit fine everywhere else.
Maybe if you've been using more pressure to get them out there's a little split somewhere, just be careful when taking them out.
My trays usually feel looser over the front teeth after a few days they then seem to settle again.

    Hey liccledevil83,

My trays used to split every so often when my teeth were crooked - now they are straight I don't have that problem! I still have a fair way to go through treatment while they work on widening my arch...just thought I would let you know it will eventually stop!

I have yet to have a tray split... let's hope I haven't just jinxed it!

I got my attachments right away, and I had to get used to taking the trays out a certain way from the beginning, so in retrospect, I have had to coddle these things since day one. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. Also, I don't have attachments on any side or back teeth (just smack dab in the front), so I wonder if it is easier to take the trays off if you can get them over 5-6 teeth before meeting the attachment. Greater leverage, perhaps. Hmmm...

    Phantom Muse,

I also have had my attachments since day one so have never known any different!

I have a total of 18 attachments with an one on EVERY tooth on my top arch and 6 on my bottom arch (3 on either side).

I know that is quite a lot...but I needed a lot to deal with the 2 extractions I had.

I find taking my aligners off easy even when I put on a new tray...figure out the technique that works for you and stick with it!

    My technique is this:

On the top arch take the aligner of at the back right hand side and pull out slowly all the way round to the left hand side. On my bottom arch I do exactly the same but from the left to the right (for some reason the opposite).

As for the tightness...it does take a couple of days for my teeth to settle into a new tray - a find that chewing chewies for about 10 minutes after changing into a new tray gets rid of that 'clicking tray' issue.

My trays tend to be a bit bouncy in the back for the first couple days. Usually by the end of the first week they've settled and fit tighter.

I have taken to chewing straws the first few days of a new tray. I have broken off 3 of the 10 attachments I had. 1 actually broke off while I was still at the ortho but he said not to worry. It's one that is on a crown so I think that's why it's having a hard time sticking. The other 2 I broke off are on the bottom and that is where they are doing the majority of the movement. Go back in tomorrow for my next set of trays...will start tray 4 so will have 10 left. I'm sure he'll be putting those attachments back on and hopefully I'm getting better at taking the trays off so won't break 'em off again.

It's a good time to remind the forum of aligner chewies .
