some questions....Not sure what to do!

    Hello everybody,

I,ve been reading on this forum for a few days now, I´m Carolina, 33 , living in Europe. I,ve been to an orthodontist last week for I have some spacing between my upperteeth and it really bothers me. (To the extend where one might say I am a bit obsessed)
The ortho said I would be a candidate for invisalign and it would take approximately 9 months..
When I got home, I had, ofcourse, a million questions and many of them are already answered right her, but some remain...

I only want my upperteeth fixed, for there is nothing wrong with my lower teeth, is that possible with invisalign?

I wore braces before when I was a teen, only upper teeth as well and after the treatment a small bar was placed behind my teeth, it's still there, but my teeth started moving with the bar on! So I'm a bit afraid that in ten years fron now, I will have the same problem again...regardless of "retaining" solutions...

and finally..the cost...My ortho said it would cost me 3500 euro, is that reasonable?

I'm going back on tuesday and I will decide then whether I'll do it or not...I'm a bit nervous about it!

I hope you can answer these questions and I apologize if there are lingual mistakes in the text, I am not a native English speaker!

    Thank you in advance!

    Hi and welcome Carolina!

Invisalign treat both arches and I'm not sure if you'd be able to find a quality provider who'd treat just one arch for this reason. It's important to consider both arches when treating teeth, as often to fix alignment, both arches are affected, as the bite is changed. For example as the gaps in your teeth in your upper arch close, your teeth may no longer meet with your lowers, without some adjustments to them.

If your bonded retainer was bonded correctly and you were also wearing your removable retainers for at least three nights a week, your gaps should not have reopened. If some part (any part) of your bonded retainer was no longer attached and you had become slack with your removable retainers, gaps would easily open again. Bonded retainers are great for keeping gaps closed, but you need to check them weekly to make sure they remained bonded in the same way they were put on. Plus the removable retainers are for life and need to be worn for three nights a week, once full time wear is reduced.

Please have your questions ready for your ortho at your next appointment ... write them down if you think you might forget them (this works well for me).

    Good luck with your treatment!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

Thank you so much for the information Sunny!

I'm currently making a list with my questions, because it seems I get a bit intimidated when I'm laying in the chair and I forget what I wanted to ask!

The bonded retainer was actually not applied well. I could "bite" on it with my lower teeth. The ortho said it was probably why my upperteeth started moving again in the first place. I never had a removable retainer, it was not mentioned by my dentist 18 years ago.....

Reading about the treatment etc. on this forum got me enthusiastic, I'm going to fix it!No more self conciousness and obsessing about my "moving teeth"

We'll see what the otho says on tuesday...

    again thank you!

Carolina...I was just looking for adjustments on my lower teeth but ended up with trays for both upper & lower. The cost is the same and as Sunny pointed out (that goes right along w/ what my ortho told me)...you really need to do the work on both arches. I spent $3500 US dollars on mine (not sure of the conversion) and I believe that's a good price.
    Good luck!
