On my last tray, terrible results..

Well, it's the last tray for my upper teeth and I am very unhappy with the results, the doctor did all of my IPR in the first couple of weeks instead of a llittle at atime as suggested on the Invisalign bags. Now, one of my tooth is left with a two rather wide IPR gaps on both sides, and it's not going to be closed by the last tray.

I am very angry that I have spent $5000 and a year doing this only to have my teeth look worse than when I started. (I did not have any gaps in my teeth at the start).
I'm going to see my doctor next week and see if he has any answers.
I honestly suspect that he screwed up and did the IPR on the opposite tooth.

Does anyone have similar expereinces with this? What are my options?
$5000 and a year of doing this just for this is absurd.

Has your ortho discussed refinements with you? Do you have one or more rounds of refinements included in your treatment package?

An ortho should know how much IPR is needed and as long as it's done before the movement is needed that shouldn't be a problem. So for a skilled provider, doing the IPR at the one time early in your treatment should not affect the outcome.

Definitely talk to your provider about what your options are, as your results are not of the standard you were told they would be.

    Good luck getting this sorted.

That is very disheartening to read. Hope they can do refinements to fill in those gaps. Good luck!!

I hate to hear this. I've also got some pretty big IPR gaps that haven't closed up yet and I'm wondering if they will. I'm halfway done. Even if they do close up, my teeth look smaller because of the amount that was shaved off of them and I'm not liking that.

I am sorry to hear you've had less-than-desired results. Hopefully, refinements can fix the spacing for you.

My ortho promised me (and put it in the contract) that if I had problems that Invisalign did not fix (or made worse) he would put me in regular braces for a short time to finish things properly. This work would be included in the $5050.00 I paid. Can you discuss this option with your ortho? It might make you feel hopeful that you will eventually get the results you want - even if it isn't how you wanted to get those results. Good luck!

I wouldn't blame the "poor" results on having IPR done at the start of treatment. This is a common practice, though not my personal preference. It can produce excellent results.

The "poor" results are also not a failure of Invisalign. As stated, the most common reasons for failure are:

    1. Inadequate wear by the patient.
    2. Improper treatment planning and diagnosis by the doctor.

There are definitely ways to correct spacing, so speak to your provider to discuss how this can be corrected. Remember that refinement should be expected as a part of treatment as well. Good luck!
