    Question Treatment concerns

I went to my ortho today for IPR and to receive my 2nd set of trays.

My concerns are that they wouldn't let me keep my 1st set of trays and that they are only going to give me 1 set of trays on each visit. They said their reason is they have to many people losing their trays. This means that since I will only see them once a month, I will be in each tray for 4 to 5 weeks. I really don't see my treatment needing to take 14 month.

    What do you all suggest?

Interesting, because if for some reason you do lose - or seriously break - your current tray, you may need the previous one to wear until a new tray is made that matches your current tray. In fact, Invisalign provides patients with that lovely little red container for just such a storage purpose!

Also, four-five week wear per tray does seem a little extreme, especially if the ortho's reasoning is only because of fear you may lose the trays. I'd call immediately and tell them that you are committed to the proper wear (and care!) of your trays and you'd appreciate being treated respectfully throughout this process and allowed to proceed on an appropriate time frame. Just because other patients might be irresponsible does not in any way reflect upon your ability to be responsible.

I tend to be rather forward about this sort of thing, but if you are not comfortable saying as much, I'd insist on appointments every two weeks (unless the ortho has a treatment reason for you to wear the trays for a longer time period).

Good luck, and keep us posted!

    Thumbs down

I'm with Phantom, that seems a bit harsh and will certainly drag your treatment time out. I have been given as many as 4 sets at a time (usually it's 3 but there was a vacation in there so he stretched it out for me). I have 9 sets of trays in my closet, cleaned and sealed back up waiting for that time I might need to go back to one of them...although I don't think that's likely to happen. Definitely talk to the ortho again and explain that this simply will not work. Good luck!!

Something else to consider. They are doing IPR between each tray. I am going to call and find out why it isn't every 2 weeks.

Went for my appointment today and got a lot of things straight.
#1 I got to keep my old trays. They like to keep them, because people lose them. She said if they keep them and if I lose or break a tray, I can just swing by their office and get my old set. I told them I'd rather keep them because I good about not losing stuff and they said ok.
#2 I will be getting new trays every 3 weeks now instead of 4 to 5 weeks. They wanted to see how fast my teeth would move before they started going faster with the trays. Since my trays were loose after 2 weeks they said we'd go to a 3 week schedule.
#3 They aren't giving my my next trays because I will be having IPR done every visit for the next few trays. They don't give the new trays to people if they need IPR before that tray. Which makes since.
#4 I will probably have to see them for every new tray because of my insurance. My insurance will pay half for my treatment up to $2000, but they won't pay it all at once. They pay half for each visit up to $200 which means I have to see them 10 times for my insurance to pay the full $2000. I only have 14 trays so that means I will go in for just about every new tray, but I don't mind since it is getting my insurance to pay.

I just wish they would have told me all this before. It is good to talk to someone different sometimes.
