    kinda bummed out

My ortho office just called. After 3 weeks of waiting for refinement retainers to come in they are here! that's the good news. now for the bad. they can't get me in for some more IPR until next thursday which is not the end of the world (i'm just impatient), but when i asked how many new retainers i ended up with i was a little shocked. 3 lower is great, but i have 8 upper. and considering the techs were surprised i was going through with refinement i thought it would be a lot less. my original treatment on top was only 13! i think my bottom teeth are way worse than my top so i'm a little confused. i'm sure they will explain it all to me next week when i go in, but another 16 weeks seems long at this point and i may be regretting going w/the refinements.

Oooo, I know you must be feeling a little bummed at this point! Is it possible that the final few refinement trays are "overcorrection" trays? Also, in my case, my lowers were much more crooked than my uppers (I only had one front tooth out of alignment), but it took 12 trays to take care of the top and only 7 for the lower. The big chunky upper teeth must simply be more challenging to move. Now that I am going into retainers, that upper front tooth wants to move again if I leave out my current trays for any period of time. Maybe that's your case, too.

16 weeks still has you done with this series by the big holiday season, so you'll be able to snack and enjoy treats as you wish at that point! If that's no consolation, you've come so far, and you really will be so pleased when everything looks as you hoped it would.

    Good luck!

thanks phantom...u are so quick w/the replies!

I mapped it out on my calendar and i'll still be done with everything 1 week shy of a year w/invisalign (if everything goes as planned) so i'm going to stop complaining, lol. I am sure I'll feel better too after I speak to my ortho next week and get the low down.

As I've said before, I haven't been wearing my retainers much during this transition time and my top teeth seem to be staying in place (my retainer doesn't feel tight after leaving them out all day), but my one bottom tooth has pressure after a few hours out (obviously i've been keeping that one in longer during the day!). which is another reason i thought my bottom would need more work than the top. but if there is one thing i've learned from these boards it's that no one's teeth react or move like anyone else's teeth

You're done with the initial treatment, that should keep you motivated right there. Just think of the future refinements, regardless of how many trays, of just tweaking and perfecting your smile. Post some pics!

    Hi there,

When I went back for my refinements this time I had 54 extra lower trays! I am not the only one here either who had more for the refinement run than the first....

Anyway, hope all goes well for you.
