    Getting attachments tomorrow

    Hey,

I'm getting my attachments Thursday at 4. I've noticed a lot of threads being made and questions regarding attachments, so I'd thought it'd be nice of me to contribute. I will be posting some pics, how long it took, what they look like, if they hurt, and of course how hard will the tray be to take off.

    Stay tuned..

Well, Got em done but it didn't go smoothly as I thought it would. I always seem to be the guy to practice on ;p

The dental assistant was cleaning my teeth and she got the pick to start scraping what she thought was glue. I had the mouthgaurd sucker so I couldn't talk and she started to pry on it..it was my composite filling! Ow lady! I had to pull the thing out and mention it to her..lol...she didn't know. I was kind of upset because it showed in my chart my fillings, xrays, and it does kind of stand out.

Anyway, mouthgaurd is cutting into my gums, spit is collecting in the back of my throat, I can't see nothing because I got cotton balls and glasses over my eyes. I'm thinking what the hell did I get myself into? But I hung in there, I thought if everyone else did it without complaining so could I.

Finally an experienced assistant took over and finished it up. The ortho was about to put tray 2 in but I had mentioned I had tray 1 in my pocket..he said well put it in and wear those for 2 weeks then switch to number 2! *I talk too much*

I ate 30 minutes later, it took about 10 minutes to get my trays off. The bottom ones were the biggest pain. I cut my gum line in the front and my thumb behind the nail trying to pry it off! As night settles in I try once again, but only manage to get the top off. I'm a patient guy so I just tell myself to wait for the morning, it should be better.

Next morning, Top came off with a little pulling but the bottoms are still some work to get off. About another 12 minutes later I got them off. You should of seen all the slobber all over my face it was crazy... I am learning, however, that if you go tooth by tooth, repeat, it does get easier. As for the pain, it's there...my molars hurt like hell but I can still chew food. The attachments are kind of rough, they match my tooth fine, it's just getting used to them.

Thought I'd share my experience so far, anyone want to share some tips please feel free. I will upload some pics today also

Well, it sounds like you are through the worst of it! In another day or two, it will be second nature getting the trays off with the attachments. I got my Invisalign retainers yesterday, and it was taking me so long to pry the lower one off, I ended up skipping lunch! It's fine today.

How many attachments did you get? I had 5 upper and 2 lower.

    Looking forward to your pictures!

Sorry to hear about your experience. It's important when choosing where to get your Invisalign treatment to note that the doctor is going to be responsible for planning your treatment, but a lot of the clinical work is done by his/her team. That means that every single team member working on you should know what they are doing and be able to answer your questions. Unfortunately, many offices only see a couple of Invisalign patients every year, and will have a hard time training all of their staff adequately.

Getting attachments on does make your work more difficult, but it definitely gets better. Stick with it and you'll soon be popping the aligners on and off within seconds . Look forward to your pics!
