    Progress and concerns...Pics included

Hello everyone! I had made a post awhile back about my concern with the tech who put on my attachments shaving off part of my teeth (the front two on the left side) and chipping my left front tooth. I took a couple pics to show what I was talking about and to see if anyone has any advice on if anything can be done for it. I am still really upset because I really liked my teeth before they were just a bit off! I did call my ortho the day after and made her aware of it but she said that I could wait and see her until my next appt. since I live kind of far away.

I know that teeth can look worse before getting better but mine just seem awful partly because I know that there was a bit of mishap putting my attachments on. Has anybody else had this problem? I have searched high and low but have not found anything on this problem. At this point I am worried that I made a mistake in doing this form of treatment, but I am trying to stay positive and hope for the best. Also, I may be a bit crazy since it is so late but it seems as if my smile is not as wide as it used to be which is weird because she said part of my treatment was to widen my smile! I go see her in about a week and a half to get my next 6 trays, I will definitely be asking a lot of questions!

I forgot to mention that I am on tray 8/16 U and 8/12 L. Not too much longer unless I need refinements!

Hi Niko - I'd be pretty mad as well if my ortho chipped my front tooth. Although yours isn't so noticable, I'm sure you going want that fixed. I assume the ortho will cover it and send you to the dentist eh?

Hang in there. I'm sure you will get to where you want to be.

Honestly, I would have never noticed if you had not mentioned it. I've got a chip in a similar spot that was caused years ago from a glass of water when someone bumped into me when I was taking a sip. I asked my dentist if he could "round out" the chipped area a bit with the drill but he said no because he was afraid that it would take another chunk out since the area had already been cracked.

Thanks guys! The chip isn't what bothers me so much because I know that chips can be fixed with composite but it's more of the shape of my teeth. My front left tooth slants upward way more than it used to and the tooth to the left of it (sorry not sure what it's called!) is noticeably smaller! I've been researching and have found that cosmetic dentists can use composite to actually reshape teeth that are too small or have had prior damage so I'm better since I know there is a fix now. I wonder if I should ask my ortho to pay it?

It took me FOREVER to figure out where the chip was! In other words, it isn't very noticeable at all, but if it is to you, that is all that matters!

My front teeth underwent what I might call a "transformation" throughout treatment. One of them was really wonky (translation: sticking out), and I disliked that part of it, but now that all is straight, that same front tooth is shorter than the others. I never noticed that before because of its position! I can have it bonded, but I am getting used to it, so I may just leave it as is.

I say all of this because, you may be noticing things (like the size of your tooth) that were always that way but now look different to you because of your new smile In addition, you are still in the middle of treatment, and a lot does change - in my experience - with the final trays.

By all means, ask your ortho to assist you in paying for fixing the damage she did. That, I think, is a reasonable request.

    Keep us posted!

Thanks for the replies! I've decided to wait until the end of my treatment to see if I still feel the same. It seems that a lot of people have their doubts at some point!

Niko these issues must be big to you, but I don't see anything wrong with your teeth, other than that you may still need some IPR (enamel shaving) done to make space for movement and this should also help the shape of your teeth. Often teeth are a strange shape due to the way they wear and this is often more the case when they're not straight ... and I'm wondering if this may be part of your issue.

Talk to your ortho at your next appointment and hopefully this will help. Good luck!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
