Treatment & Refinement finished: now what ?

    Hi,

I have finished my treatment since a few months

I was pretty happy with the results on the bottom: the orthodontist put some kind of wire back there and my theeth stay in place

But for the upper part...the orthodontist could not stop the teeth from going back.

I'm still using the last invisalign aligner at night but it has become much too smooth

I have heard the Invisalign provides now a much stronger last aligner, that can be used after the treamtent is finished (you wear it at night) and it does not loose is thigness with time.

I didn't find any information about this last aligner on Invisalign website though

    Can anybody confirm this ?

Giu you need to contact your ortho and request upper and lower removable retainers. It sounds like your ortho has bonded a wire retainer to your lowers, which is excellent for as long as it remains bonded to those teeth ... but it is only retaining the 4, 6 or 8 teeth that it's bonded to, so the rest of those lower teeth need a nightly removable retainer to keep them in place.

Good luck with making that phone call and getting your retainers organised!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

    thx for answering

    Sunny,

    thx for answering

There is a wire to the lowers and it's doing a good job. (I'm missing a tooth at the back on each side, i'll take care of it but let's say, the lowers is not a problem.

I do have a removable retainer for the uppers and that is what is causing the problem.

See, after the invisalign treatment, 2 teeth were moving quite too easily back and forth and when the ortho took the prints (whith that sort of plaster) for the removable retainers, those 2 teeth moved and so the retainers I got were no good at all.

So I went on with the last invisalign trays but they get definitely too soft

Last week, I went to a specialist for fixing those missing teeth (dental implants on the lowers) and I asked him his opinion about my Invisalign treatment, and why the removable retainers didn't work and he told me that since a few month, Invisalign can provide those removable retainer (thus for after the treatment) based on the last Invisalign trays (which is exactly what I need: as I said: taking a print with this sort of plaster will makes those two teeth move enough to make the whole procedure useless)

I didn't find any confirmation about this on Invisalign websites, my question here was: can someone confirm this ?

I'm sorry if this is confusing but I really would like to make that phone call with a solution in my hands rather than asking the ortho what we can do

    Cool

I never heard of those Vivera Retainers but yes, it kind of seems to be the things I need but does it have anything to do with Invisalign or is it another product from another company ?

Vivera retainers are an Invisalign product. I have them, and they are definitely thicker than the regular aligners. In addition, my ortho did take new impressions for them, but I was told that Invisalign can make them from the form for the last aligner trays.

Have you considered a bonded retainer on the top arch as well? I have them on both arches, and I am VERY happy with them. My teeth are really staying in place now, so much so that I need only wear the removable retainers every other night.

    Phantom Muse,

    thx for that feedback

My ortho never offerd me such thing as a bonded retainer (and I wasn't aware of that technique)
All he said was that putting a wire on the uppers would make it uncomfortable

PS: I may sound like a guy from the past century and and in some way, I am: I live in Belgium and invisible orthodondics techniques & products are not so advanced

Now I hope with ID or client number or whatever it is , my ortho should be able to get those Viveras ?

At least now I know something can be done

    thx!

One last question: were do we get the vivera retainer ?

Does my ortho just need to contact Invisalign and they'll provide it ?

    ok, so...,

A couple of monthes later, I got my Vivera's

    thank you guys!

I got them last tuesday and I'm a bit confused: I got 3 retainers in the Box (only doing the upper archs)

I thought I was supposed to get only one retainer and then a new retainer every 3 months ?

These retainers are in their little plastic bags label U1 OF3, U2 OF3 and U3 OF3 (U is for uppers)

Anyway, I started wearing U1 OF3 on tuesday and decided that I would wear them full time ( or at least until I will be confortable)
They were a little tight at first but now i'm confortable alreay: the teeth have moved, not to the final position but it's a good step forward.

Now, i'm thinking...if i'm already confortable, my teeth won't move anymore, will they ? But the job is not finished!

I can't call my ortho, he's on vacation now, so I thought...maybe I should try to wear retainer U2 OF3 to see if it is as confortable as U1 OF3

Well, it's a whole other story! I can barely put it on and they hurt!

    So what's going here ?

Why is U2 OF3 not the same as U1 OF3 ? Are these like a mini treatment set of aligners ?

Does anybody have an answer ?

I Imagine that they are the first three. Does #1 fit perfectly like your last aligner? If so I would put this in and keep the rest until your ortho returns from holiday.
