    Cracked/Chipped Aligner

    Hi Guys,

Sorry if something like this has been posted before.

I got my first invisalign aligners put about a week ago. About 4 days after, I noticed a small crack one side of my top aligner (I have very crowded teeth on the top). I went and saw my ortho and he said not too worry too much about it as the aligners still seemed tight and fit onto my teeth. He told me to continue to wear them. Today i noticed that the crack got bigger. After i put it back on, I noticed that the aligner actually felt a bit tighter on the teeth around the crack. Is this going to be an issue? Should i start wearing my second one or continue with this one?

All in all, it has been a bit more of an adjustment than what i thought, but i'm slowly getting used to it. I'm sure it will be all worth it in the end!

Thanks in advance for your help everyone!

Bee87 - I'm fairly new to this process myself (week 3, 2nd set of trays), but I'd call my ortho first thing you can, especially if it's cracked more and you are feeling a different pressure on at least one tooth. I wouldn't switch to tray two only a week in without talking to them first.

I suppose if your ortho said not to worry about it, I would probably give him the benefit of the doubt. Personally, I would be far more concerned if the aligner felt looser due to the crack. I would say try and make the first tray last as long as you can, and if you must switch, try and do so as close to the 2 week mark as possible. Unless the crack reappears in future trays, I don't suspect you'll face any lingering issues. The adjustment period is certainly the hardest part, but usually doesn't last past the first aligner. Good luck, Bee! Keep us posted.

    Regards,
    Crush

    Thanks for the replies guys!

I'm going to do exactly that. Will try and wear the first one for as long as possible and IF needed, will switch to the second one a couple of days early. If the second one fits ok, at least i'll know that it hasn't caused too much damage. If not, then back to the ortho i go!
    fingers crossed...

Great News - Put my second one on only 1/2 day earlier and it fits! HOORAY! Tight of course but i expected that
Bad News - about a day in and ALREADY a small crack in the second one..
Again, it fits ok so will continue as per normal, BUT i was hoping for some tips on removing the aligner? I'm trying to be careful but obviously not careful enough. :'(
I have an appointment with my Ortho after my 3rd aligner so if the 3rd one cracks too then I'll definitely be talking to him about it.
