    dry mouth :P

I've googled around this issue so I know it's pretty common with invisalign but I'm worried about my mouth being this dry throughout my treatment. I especially notice it if I have to talk for a while, which is bad because my job involves a huge amount of public speaking. I'm drinking loads of water (non-stop in fact) and using lip balm. Is there anything else you've found that helps? Does it go away as you get used to the trays? (I'm still in my first week)

Hi Magdalene, I too have the dry mouth/lips issue and constantly drink water and apply lip balm often. I’m halfway through tray 4 and the issue has not subsided. I’m assuming it will be an ongoing issue. Let me know if you find anything that helps!

"Tray #5" here and yes, for me, it is just another thing to have to suffer through. *sigh* However, ice water is very soothing so I suggest a bit of that. Also...I like DHC lip balm. If Chapstick is your wax of choice you may not like it though. The DHC lip balm is from Japan, it must have a lot of oils in it and it feels very soft on the lips. It is quite helpful for me.

I have the same issue and the water doesn't really help. Oddly enough, the dry mouth is reduced for a while after I eat spicy foods. Worth a shot? lol

I'm at the end of tray 2 and my dry mouth has definitely gotten better, but it's still present. My lips also dry out - I've tried different lip balms and found Burt's Bee's regular one the best for me.

I don't have Invisalign, but I do have the same problem with dry mouth. I've been using this mouthwash (ACT Total Care Dry Mouth):

It has helped a bit so far, but I haven't been using it long enough to say whether it's more beneficial than regular mouthwash. I figured it was worth a shot, though.

    Expected Treatment Time: 30 Months

I think for the most part my mouth has gotten used to it, and it's not dry anymore. The only time I still have an issue with it is when I run. By mile 2 my mouth feels like it's at mile 5.

Running/working out with braces can be awful! I have the Damon system and my mouth gets so dry that my braces will stick to my lips. Yuck!

Like Rachel I discovered a dry mouth mouthwash that helps a bit, but for important stuff I now just take my invisalign out for an hour or whatever and speed-eat on that day! After eleven weeks I am guessing this isn't going away, so I've kind of become used to it.

I'm now on week 11 and still have days with a very dry mouth. Overall, I think it's much better. I agree with post above - I got ACT - Total Care for Dry Mouth. It does seem to help to rinse with that if I'm having an overly "dry" day. I also read somewhere about the saliva having enzymes to help not feel so dry (supposedly same enzymes are in ACT Dry Mouth as well as BioTene (I think it's spelled that way) toothpaste and mouthwash. That post suggested to not swish plain water around in mouth (even though it feels soothing) as it rinses any existing saliva out of the trays. I have tried to just drink and not swish water so much lately and it does seem to be a little better lately.

I smoked up with my invisalign and let me tell you -- you haven't experienced dry mouth with invisalign until you smoke weed with it on lol
