    chewing gum???

My doctor said chewing gum with aligners in is forbidden - how is gum different than a chewie they make us chew? Anyways last night I just had to have gum and... I had it! and it felt like biting on it was putting aligners more in place - ?

So how bad is it to chew gum?

Gum has sugar and other ingredients ... chewies don't release ingredients. Having anything in your mouth other than water can result in permanent damage to the enamel of your teeth, cavities and gum issues. These won't always be noticable in the months that follow and the damage may not show until your treatment is finished.

    Stevenson did you have invisalign?

True ... not all gum has sugar, but if it doesn't have sugar it has ingredients that are not water and therefore your teeth will be at risk while you have the aligners on, due to these ingredients working on the enamel on your teeth.

Stevenson your teeth are perfect at this time ... has the enamel on your teeth be tested for wear and tear? In 10 years ... it will be interesting to know what effects this abuse has had on your enamel.
