Anyone know where I can get those chewies? I can't order them online so id need to purchase the at a retail store. And are they necessary?

I asked my dentist about that and thankfully she was honest about them. They're not really necessary. I'm on set 22 and have never used them. Earlier on, there were a couple of times I needed something like chewies after popping in a new set. I improvised and just bit down on my finger. I know it sounds weird or painful, but it really isn't. I did that for a few seconds as they helped the aligners settle in properly. Problem solved!

Don't forget to get polident instead of retainer brite. Saves a boatload of cash and does it's job. I use the 3-minute tablets and have never had a problem with staining (red wine/coffee) or bad odors.
    Invisalign start date: 1/7/2011
    U - 24 of 25 (Stopped at 24)
    L - 24 of 24 (Original plan was 25; 1 less is awesome.)

5 weeks later... Refinement start date: 1/14/2012
U - 7 of 7... lost one of my attachments and my lazy butt took a month to have it replaced. Extended 5U to 4 weeks.
    L - 3 of 3
Down from 11 attachments to 3 - teeth feel so much smoother.

Had impressions done yesterday, and expect the new aligners in about 4-5 weeks.

My ortho gives me those chewies for free each visit.
Agree, they are not necessary. You may use instead of them a folded piece of tissue or something like that :-)

    Hi dudders,

I bought them at DentaKit.com: Orthodontic dental supplies, wax, & floss for braces & retainers. My dentist said didn't I didn't need them but I think they help seat the trays better.

My ortho gives me a new one every visit for free. For me, they're necessary because my aligners won't sit correctly when I put them back in unless I use my chewie. I used my finger at first, but the further along my treatment went, the less it worked. My ortho even said he could tell I wasn't using the chewie because my teeth were "backing out of the aligners". Not really sure what that meant, but I made a point to start using the chewie and can definitely tell a difference. I'm sure you could improvise though. Anything firm with a little give should work.

I just rolled up a gauze pad and bit down on that. It worked like a charm because my aligners got really snug after chewing on that for a bit. My ortho didn't give me any chewies but, then again he didn't instruct me on the day I received my aligners anyway.

    I too use my finger

I've tried Retainer Brite and Polident (for retainers). They both work well but Polident is sold everywhere, which makes it the clear winner for me.

    toothbrush

I just bite down on the handle of my toothbrush, moving it around my mouth. It seems to make them seat in pretty well.
