    What does "overcorrection" mean?

I'm on 15 out of 15 on the bottoms, and I noticed that the pouch containing my aligners says "Overcorrection" at the bottom. It also says "L 15+ of 15"

Does that mean that I'm getting refinements? I was given these trays over a month ago at my last appointment, and my ortho said everything's going fine. He didn't mention anything about refinements.

    I found this in internet:

Over-corrections are given by Invisalign because those particular teeth proved stubborn to move the first time around and apparently they then usually remain resistant throughout treatment. For this reason he has told me to wear my next two upper over-corrections and he will then review my teeth again to see whether we are satisfied with the final positioning.

    Thanks, Jensen.

So I just saw my ortho and the "overcorrection" was just one aligner in addition to the original 14 that I was supposed to get. I'm technically done with my first course on the bottom, but since my bottom arch isn't completely straight, my ortho did IPR, scanned my teeth, and is ordering refinements. Looks like I'll have another 6-8 trays on the bottom.

The overcorrection with aligners is generally to help close any spaces that were not closed. It takes the teeth and pushes them all lingually as a unit.

In regular orthodontic terms, overcorrection is to overdo movements that may be difficult to achieve. For instance, with rotated teeth, an endpoint is set to rotate the tooth past the full point of correction since not all movements may be achieved 100%. To achieve 95% of a rotation that was supposed to be overcorrected may put a tooth into the correct spot.

    Hope that isn't too confusing!

Thanks, Dr. Tam! That helps explain why I was so sore after starting this aligner
