How many xrays are taken before invisalign?

My orthodontist asked me to do 12 xrays ( skull, jaws, bitewings, pano and some i dont know the name lol).
Is this normal? Or too much?
The problem is i just had my wisdom teeth extracted 2 months ago, and i did some xrays series with it, but my orthodontist want to see my teeth condition now, not before wisom teeth extracted.
I'm so paranoid with the radiation!

    Any info or help pls!

I didn't have that many done, just the bitewings and another one - luckily my dentist works very closely with my ortho (share office space) so some of my regular dental xrays were shared. I didn't have any teeth removed though, so that may be part of it. It sounds like your ortho really wants to make sure he/she looks at everything and makes the plan based on all the factors, which sounds like a good thing.

The only requirement from Align is a panoramic x-ray or full mouth series. The panoramic film is good for an overall view of the teeth and jaws, but not detailed enough to show any cavities. This is generally the x-ray that an orthodontist would take for you, since orthodontic patients should be cleared of cavities by their general dentist prior to starting treatment.

Interestingly, Align does not require a cephalometric x-ray, which is the side view of the skull. It shows the relative angulations of the upper and lower teeth, and relationship of the jaws. I 100% need this for my diagnosis and am quite surprised that this is not a required record.

I had 8 xrays including pano before the wisdom teeth extraction on november.
And yesterday on feb 2012, actually i had to take another 9 (not 12) before doing invisalign.
I already give the old xrays to my orthodontist, he said, the old one were not showing any roots the way he wanted to, and the panorex also not clear.

Am i getting too much x-rays?
The old one were digital xrays and the new one are regular xrays.
It seems people in this forum only have to do panorex n skull xrays ?

Before starting my Invisalign treatment, my ortho asked for:
    - Panoramic X-Ray
    - Cephalometric X-Ray
    - iCat Scan (I suffer from TMJ)
    Invisalign: 23/26U - 23/48L - 13 attachments
