Concerned about cracks in aligners...

Hi all,

I am supposed to wear my last set of aligners as I'm waiting for refinement trays to come in. Problem is, this last set developed a crack/tear and is now nearly in two pieces. So I've had to go back a couple of sets to find a set with no cracks to wear instead. I'm now worried that my teeth will shift before the refinements come in because of wearing a tray with cracks for a couple of weeks and now reverting to one a couple of sets back - anyone had this problem? Is it likely that they will shift much? Worried about undoing all the hard work! The first set of aligners took weeks and weeks to come in.....

Jane, if you go back to trays from a couple of sets ago, your teeth will move back to where they were a couple of sets ago and may not fit the refinement trays well when they come in. You should call your ortho asap and ask him to make an Essix-type retainer for you to wear while you wait.

Thanks for the reply! Have been to see the dentist and there was one final tray which I wasn't given to wear, i.e. I stopped slightly early so I'm going to use that one and look after it very very carefully! Not really sure what causes these cracks, maybe it is how you remove the trays? Anyone know?
