Speaking

Does it take time to get used to this in your mouth before talking properly, or is speech not affected by wearing Invisalign? Also, is there saliva build-up like with some retainers? Thank you.

I deliver presentations as part of my job and noone has commented yet on me speaking any differently. When I first got invisalign it took about a week to avoid the slight lisp on s words, now all is fine.

To avoid the saliva issue, half fill the aligner with water before putting them on, then sort of suck inwards and it will be clear. Also keep drinking water throught the day.

I feel like I have a bit of a lisp with the upper retainer in... I take them out if I'm going to speak to a large group or something like that.

My biggest problem is being self conscience about the braces, not actually having any troubles talking. No one has ever been able to tell I had braces, but sometimes I get paranoid and think people are staring at my mouth.

when i had my retainers on after the metal, i was also unwittingly self-conscious and did a lot of funny things, so much so that my friends told me off to not keep biting my retainers and making funny faces when i roll my tongue to keep in check that the retainers were there. haha

Most of the time, speech is affected because people are afraid to open their mouths as they think its unsightly.
There shouldn't have any effect on your way of speech because its only on the teeth and not your tougne.

Unless there is some major suugery or something where they have to remove some teeth because your jaw was too small or something.

that's comforting . cos i'm thinking of putting on braces, and am afraid that it may affect, cos i spend a lot of time talking as required by my job. But how to overcome the fear of unsightlyness and speak normally?
