New Here...

Hey, I'm 14 almost 15 years old and I have a really bad overbite and some crowding of the lower teeth. I really want invisalign, ibraces, or some other invisible thing, but my mom says they won't work for me and she won't even let me try to get them. I get braces in about a week and a half, so please help me. I'm hoping if I get some posts on here maybe my mom will change her mind. I don't want braces because I love to perform and want to be an actress. I will try to get pictures on here at some point.

Hi peanutdurof and welcome to this forum.

What did the ortho's you consulted with say about invisalign and lingual braces?

There's a good chance that invisalign wouldn't work for you, as it's designed for the correction of minor alignment issues, not for more serious work or bite correction.

Lingual brackets will work for the same cases as the more traditional brackets, but take a little longer to adjust to and also require a bit more care, especially when it comes to oral hygiene. Plus many ortho's charge considerably more for them.

Having braces should not affect your ability to preform, unless you let them. Remember this time will usually go quickly, so there impact on your life should be minimal. I got braces when I was 47 ... and they're a breeze. My hubby is a CEO of a large company and we often attend formal dinners with overseas and local dignities/celebraties and I've never found having braces an issue. I find the attitude of 'nothings changed' helps me cope with any situation.

Many people now get ceramic brackets and they're almost invisable and do the same job as stainless brackets. Talk to your ortho about these different options, as you may be interested to find out what s/he prefers to use, as mostly it's personal preference, as all brackets perform nearly the same.

Good luck with getting your treatment started ... and the countdown to an awesome bite and smile!

I recommend the regular metal brace because it can do the best job, the fastest and at the cheapest. The extra money saved can go towards a new computer / college savings, fastfood, etc..

When I was growing up, my parents could not afford braces for me so I had to work and pay for it myself. Braces are VERY expensive for most people, so you are lucky to have caring parents to give the gift of braces!

18 more and more orthodontists are not charging more for the different brackets, as it's been scientifically proven many times, that metal and ceramic work at the same speed ... because brackets don't move teeth, archwires do, and the archwires used with both are the same.

peanutdurof I can't be certain that your ortho offers ceramic brackets, but most do, as this is the way most ortho's are moving, due to the need to find treatment that is both fast and aesthetically pleasing for their patients. A phone call to the office of your ortho to find out what brackets they use, would put your mind at ease.

Good luck!

Ceramics maybe? braces don't affect acting, unless you want them to.
