    Surgery...?

For the first time, I had a dentist tell me I need braces. He say's a have an overbite, and that later on it could cause issues with my jaw. He's the first dentist to tell me this...and he's new. So, I went to a specialist, who said I could get corrective braces just to fix that, but there was no way to be certain if it would cause jaw issues or not.

Now my question is, what will my jaw look like after? I'm considering asking about surgery because my face longer than I would like, my forehead is even with my top and bottom teeth. Is there any way to fix that? I don't know if there is any way to lenthen my top jaw, and if so would that require a surgery? Thanks,

    Kiwi

Hi Kiwi - I really recommend you see a few orthodontist who are proven in bite correction. Many times an overbite can be corrected enough just with braces that the client does not need the surgery. To lengthen your jaw though, you will most likely need the surgery. Do keep us posted.

Not sure if you really mean overbite (a deep overbite is where the upper jaw comes too deeply down in frongt of the lower) or an overjet where the lower jaw sits too far behind the upper. An overjet might be corrected with braces alone, if the issue is really just about the teeth. But if the issue is really about the skeleton then a good, stable result might only be possible with surgery. Multiple opinions would be the bestbet.
