    Unhappy Crossbite Issues

    Hi guys,

I'm a 24 yr old male, and i'm upset about my crossbite at the moment. I was meant to have the rapid upper jaw expander in 1999, but after a week I removed it (I couldn't cope, and I think I was immature back then). In 2002, i hated the gaps I had still, so I saw a private orthodontist and he said he could fix my gaps and crossbite with just braces and no expansion device. The image I attached is the outcome. As you can see i still have problems. I'm worried coz i think the best option is really surgery to expand my upper jaw. Please someone tell me what you think. I've put all the concerns on that image file, as well as some notes (sorry about my teeth being abit yellow lol).

    thanks,

    Corry

Your ortho looks to have done an amazing job Corry! Your teeth and bite look fantastic and the few tiny things you are considering as issues, may just be due to the way your teeth are shaped and come together. You're so lucky to have such wonderful looking teeth.

    Congratulations!

    Unhappy Crossbite issue

    Hi,

thanks, i guess to people they look nice, but to me the feeling of the bite isn't. I've seen 3 other orthodontic opinions - all suggested that i can do braces again. But an ideal result would be surgery then braces. I'm thinking of the later option because i believe i really need a skeletal expansion, not just a dental expansion. I also get joint pain, and popping and clicking on the jaw joint where i have the crossbite - I am very worried it will get worse with time.

    thanks,

    corry

If your ortho's agree, then you're best to do it.

You'll still have great looking teeth and with surgery your bite might feel better!

    Good luck!

was your crossbite really severe?.....did your orthodontist use rubberbands to attempt to widen your jaw?.....i have a crossbite and im 19, so my only option would be surgery....i cant afford it so would you recommend i just get braces?.....my ortho (great expressions) told me that she could use rubberband to try to widen my jaw.

Wow your teeth look really great and I hate to see you go through surgery just for the slight crossbite, however if it bothers you and you can afford it, than find yourself a good doctor. Your braces treatment time will be very little for sure.

Most of us don't have nearly as nice of teeth that you have, but I can tell you that I know what it feels like to have braces on and not be satisifed with the results...

I know what you mean regarding the crossbite. I had braces on and my teeth came out good, but won't stay put.

I wasn't nearly as educated about ortho as I am now, so I just left in in the hands of my ortho and apparently the crossbite wasn't an issue to him. Now, my bite doesn't feel comfortable (ortho has retired), so I am going to have find another ortho and maybe get surgery one day...

    A good bite is important...
