under bite:unhappy with jaw surgery plans

so i`m currently beginning the whole braces/surgery process for my under bite that i have been waiting for for about EIGHT years now, but i`m not so excited. My chin has always been my issue the way it juts out in pictures and whenever i smile..(a similar worry for people in my situation i have learned)..and with that, my dentist plans to move my upper jaw forward and thats it. I`m unhappy about this because although my bite will be corrected, my lower jaw will still be out there and i`ll still look odd. Is my dentist being lazy by not doing both lower and upper jaw? or might this look good? it`s very noticeable and i won`t be happy with "okay looking"..not with all the money my family will be spending. SUGGESTIONS PLZZ i`ve cried so mcuh over this, i feel silly, but it`s a face i have to look at everyday.

I found out in August that I was going to need jaw surgery to correct my overbite. They will only be moving my lower jaw forward. My surgery won't be until a year from now, so I really can't give you a whole lot of advice...But if you Google 'underbite jaw surgery blog' or something along those lines, people document their experiences and usually post pictures. Just keep in mind that everyone is different and has different experiences, but it really helped me when I first found out that I was going to need jaw surgery.

Cupidd how the surgery is done, depends on what was discovered from the many x-rays you've had done. Plus it'll be a surgeon who'll make the decision, not a dentist.

Some people with underbites need to have one or other jaw moved and others need both jaws moved.

If you're not happy with what your ortho and surgeon are recommending, it's always good to consult with a few others.

    Good luck!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

Please remember this: how your lower jaw looks is affected by the upper jaw/midface area. So if your upper jaw is too small, then your lower jaw is going to look overly large, even if it is not.

But, as Sunny said, if you are not confident, have more consultations. And yes, be aware that it is the surgeon and not the ortho who decides the surgical plan.
I am not a dental professional.

As it says on the main Bracesreview.com page, always consult a qualified orthodontist, dentist, or medical professional with questions you may have.

I can't really help much in the suggestions department, but I was blog hopping once and I came across this blog where this woman was getting underbite surgery similar to yours where only the top jaw is moved forward, she posted before and after profile photos and for the before photo her lower jaw was obviously prominent, and for the after photo it didn't look prominent at all even with just moving the upper jaw forward! because like zoso said, how the lower jaw looks is relative to the rest of the face

I wish I had the link, but I don't I'm sure if you go around looking at blogs you should be able to find something like that
