    Uncorrectable underbite?

Hello! I am an adult and have been told by two different specialists (who have looked at x-ray scans) that my underbite is uncorrectable, but I'm just having a hard time accepting this.

The way my teeth are aligned now they actually meet each other head on, and as a result my upper teeth have been worn down somewhat throughout the years. What worse though, is that I have a weak upper jaw that makes my lower jaw protrude a lot when, especially when I smile. I'm not sure if my lower jaw needs to be moved back, but my upper jaw certainly looks like it needs to be moved forward a bit.

The problem is that the specialists say that moving my jaws would actually make my bite worse (however that is possible), so they won't do it. Myself I'm convinced that aligning the teeth with braces and moving my upper jaw would improve both my bite and my profile.

    What should I do?

Vincent you need to talk to some more orthodontists to find out what they consider are your best options.

If jaw surgery will not correct your bite, find out how stable your results would be with braces alone. It may be possible to improve your bite to prevent your teeth being worn any further, without being able to improve your profile by as much as you're like.

Hopefully with further consults you may find an option that helps you feel better! Good luck!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
