I just want to let others know that if you have bite issues, be open minded when shopping for an orthodontist.
Some orthodontist will say surgery right off the bat and others will say braces can fix it about 75% of the way you want it to be.
However, will your teeth stay put even when wearing the retainers 24/7? In my experience not really.
I had braces on a quite some time and my teeth were very nice when the braces came off. I wore my retainers like crazy, but they were shifting daily for the next 2 years.
Now the crossbite that wasn't fixed is giving me problems and my bite is off...
Do your research and figure out with your doctor the best plan for long term results...![]()
Mike some teeth will move no matter what! This is why surgery figures aren't so great, as teeth still need to be moved to obtain the correction that surgery works for.
Bonded retainers can help ... but not totally. Only a few people will have their teeth in a position that will remain retained with regularly retainer wear. Most will have them in a position that will mostly be retained with regularly retainer wear ... and a few ... well they won't stay no matter what.
It's important to remember that there are other forces at work in our mouths that cause teeth to move. Our tongue is the strongest one, our checks and the way we bite and chew. All these forces will cause our teeth to move over a period of time, no matter how amazing our orthodontist is.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
