Hi.
I have a massive overbite one of the biggest my dentist has ever seen. I can't shut my teeth close theirs just to much space. Two previous Dentist recommend i get Orthognathic surgery to correct my jaw. But once i heard the price the idea wen through one ear out the other because that was WAY out my price range. Im hoping braces correct my overbite enough to where its no completely obvious. The Dentist said he can't fix it with braces but will be able to shrink it to a certain amount. I also notice when i smile you cant see my bottom row of teeth. Multiple dentist were also suprised that i didn't have trouble eating because my bite was so bad.
Im in California and have Healthnet Health insurance & Aetna Dental Insurance provided through my fathers job with federal government.
Do you think i could get one of them to cover surgery?
What are side effects of surgery? retainers forever?
Pictures
The first one my teeth are closed completely and the second one thats my full smile not a partial
ANY piece of information helps
Hi FreshPrince!
The first pic shows an open bite ... as when you close your teeth together, your uppers should be slightly in front of your uppers with no gap between the arches.
Many people smile without showing their lower teeth, so please don't be worried about that.
Ask your ortho if you issue is dental (can be fixed without surgery) or a skeleton problem (needs surgery). If it's skeleton and you're getting treatment that will disguise this, be aware that your results will not be as good as that which is achievable with surgery, although many skilled ortho's can do a great job.
Good luck with your treatment!![]()
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
As Sunny said, check with the orthodontist if this is just dental. If this is a skeletal deformity, immediately get in touch with your primary care physician. Dental insurance will not cover the insurance, but your medical insurance will if your overbite is severe enough and causing other medical problems or a speech impediment. Also, some medical insurance companies will not cover the cost of the surgery if they find that you've already had the braces put on. The medical insurance will not cover the orthodontics, so you'll go through your dental insurance for that.
I'm going through the same thing with my underbite and the only thing that's stopped me from getting braces put on is that I don't have the money to pay for the surgery, so I'm going through the process of having this covered by my insurance.
