You need to talk to your orthodontist and surgeon about this. There is many differing opinions on the origins of TMJ and what can help this pain.
Good luck!
Hi, I got my wisdom teeth removed in 7th grade because my mouth apparently was too crowded (I had my braces on for a little under a year at that point). I don't remember having TMJ-like symptoms before the surgery. I do know they had to cut into the gums to get the teeth out since they obviously hadn't been exposed yet. I don't have much pain associated with it, but occasionally my jaw does feel pretty sore. Any time I move my jaw forward it locks and I have to wiggle it around to unlock it, and it clicks. This happens when I open my mouth too, and sometimes it locks when I'm talking so my sentences come out slurred.
Also I'm getting jaw surgery on my lower jaw to correct my overbite, is there any evidence that this will help TMJ at all? Will it make it worse?
Thanks
