top or bottom jaw surgery? with pics

My bite is so strange I can't tell what the problem is. A combination of both?

Also my bite began to get worse shortly after my wisdom teeth began coming in as they seem to have shifted my teeth forward even more, and I will be having those out soon.

Hey welcome to the forum. You have a class 3 underbite. Only your surgeon and orthodontist will be able to determine if you need both jaws adjusted.

My guess is you need upper jaw widened/forward and lower jaw brought back....

In many cases like yours however, the upper jaw only is moved forward....

http://www.bracesinfo.com/ - there are some good case studies here similar to yours.

i agree you have a severe class 3- you should contact an orthodontist and i would see a number of orthos to get opinions. the ortho is the person that will then refer you to an oral surgeon for analysis- if you can find a doc with a cat scan or icat machine that would be good..if you do end up starting treatment you should post your progress- i think it will be a fantastic end result if you find the right team of doctors to treat you- good luck

    Hi and welcome TheCreator!

The comments above sound fantastic. Only an ortho can set up the work needed to make decisions about our jaw and face and how they are and how to get them where they need to be. Once you find a great ortho ... and this often takes a few consults, then with your ortho's help you'll find a great surgeon and your journey will begin.

    Good luck!

I'm no expert, but my ortho said that in my underbite case if I got just braces to fix my underbite, it'll make my face more concave. Do you notice how your face is kinda "flat"?

My option is to have an expander on the top jaw, braces, then surgery on both jaws.

As for your wisdom teeth...get them out before they get infected...mine got infected before I took them out, not nice at all...at least now I know what pus tastes like :P

It didn't hurt at all, I just felt groggy, ate yogurt for a couple of days, then I could go back to having rice, but food would get stuck in the holes where the teeth used to be, it was really annoying, coz i'd try to get it out by using my tongue.

3 of mine weren't out yet, but because I was getting the infected one out my dentist said I should just get them all out. So I did, I think it was a surgical removal. I was awake for it, I'm pretty proud of that

    Good luck!

As long as you have the space in your jaw bone and your oral hygiene is of an acceptable standard, there is no need to have your third molars (wisdom teeth) removed.

If you need to have your wisdom teeth removed due to lack of space, the method used will depend on what needs to be done to remove the teeth and how much you can afford to spend. If your wisdom teeth are impacted you need to have surgery, whereas if the teeth are coming through relatively straight, you can have them out while you're awake or asleep ... being asleep is the most stressful for your body and the most expensive.
