    Lightbulb Complicated Wisdom Tooth Removal

Just thought I would share my experience of a recent COMPLICATED wisdom tooth removed.

My lower right tooth was what they call "Complicated". Meaning this wouldn't be as easy to get out as my others were.I have had 3 of 4 removed about 8 years ago, but left this tooth in as in was near the nerve.

Well after meeting with the surgeon we all agreed that this tooth should come out asap.

I decided not to be put to sleep and just be numbed as it is only one tooth and saves quite a bit of $$ and the procedure can be done in the office as an inpatient.

The total procedure was about 30 minutes and I didn't feel any pain. I did feel the pressure, drilling, and sewing. I could see that freaking a few people out, but it really was not a big deal at all. I would of had liked to have my ipod with me to knot hear that stuff tough

Ok so here I am 3 days later. WOW am I swollen. Looks like I have a golf ball in my mouth. I haven't had much pain and have been following the post op instructions very carefully. I suppose if I iced my face more I wouldn't be as swollen, but I have been slacking in that area.

I have an appointment with the surgeon on Friday to get the stitches out.

    Hope this helps someone

    Mike,

Glad to hear you are healing well and not in pain! To reduce the swelling when I had my wisdom teeth removed, I slept quasi-sitting up in a large comfy chair. This made a big difference for me, and although I don't generally sleep easily, I slept better than I thought I would. Maybe those sleeping hours lying flat are aggravating the swelling for you.

I doubt I could have handled being awake during the procedure (kudos to you!). For me post-op, however, I had a bruise on my face like you wouldn't believe! The surgeon must have had to really apply pressure because his hand print was very clearly etched on my face in the form of a bruise. The bruise turned a bright mustard yellow, and when visiting a friend in the hospital, two nurses and then a doctor pulled me aside in the hallway to ask if I wanted to talk with them about anything - was I okay? was there trouble in my life? It took me until I got home to realize that they thought I had been in a fight!

By this time next week, your wisdom tooth removal will be a distant memory!

It looks like you need to hit the ice! Try that off and on, and then see if you might sleep upright tonight.

    Hope you feel better soon!
