    Unhappy What to do?

Hello, I would like to get some insight from all of you have undergone upper and lower jaw surgery. I have had issues with my teeth and jaws since I was two years old. After having braces for 10 years and then being removed at the age of 17 I have noticed with my teeth moving. I had informed my orthodontist of the changes and he told me they are all in my head. Even though I knew they weren’t I kind of lived with my appearance and my teeth? Now at the age of 27, 10 years later I am having issues with TMJ. After going to a new orthodontist I was informed that my jaws are completely unaligned from one another. I was referred to one of the best surgeons in the country, in my orthodontist option. One of the downfalls of the surgeon if he does not associate with insurance. So the cost of the sugary would be pained upfront and out of my pocket and then the insurance would reimburse me. I guess a few of my concerns would be is this even worth it? I go to the surgeon in August with a $400 consultation fee to see what exactly would need to be done. My orthodontist has informed me that I would definitely need the upper and lower jaw movement as well as my upper jaw being expanded. I guess I would like to know from all of you that have had this done is the money, time, and pain worth all of this?
    1. How different will I look?
    2. How much recovery time do you need off of work? I am a college professor and talking is very important to my job and I’m not sure how long I will be unable to speak or work?
    3. How difficult is it to eat from a straw all the time and only be able to eat like this for six weeks?
    4. If any of you had to do it again would you?
Really don’t care about paying or swelling because I kind have done it before. At the age of 19 I had impacted wisdom teeth removed and the age 23 I had a deviated septum and tumor moved out of my sinus. At age 24 I had tubs put my ear from pain at the age of 26 I had them removed because they did not work themselves out. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t have the surgery for cosmetic reasons because at this age I have accepted my appearance and my bite. However, I have damaged to my TMJ joint, which causes a lot of pain in my ear, my eye, headaches and neck pain. I’ve been trying to an advantage is and risks but I would really appreciate any insight you all have.

    Thank you

I think especially with a more complicated case it may be best to seek out up to 3 consultations from top orthognathic surgeons and make sure to ask them your questions about the surgery being able to fix what is bothering you. Because I had everything from it can't be done to I'll do it. So I'm going with the I'll do it surgeon.
