Question tmj, top teeth major over bite, buck teeth , crocked smile i am a mess

Hello eveyone! I am new to the forum...Well I was wondering if anyone has advice or experience similar to my situation? (Firstly I am 39 years old) Yes I was a coward for a big part of my life). ortho has not re-evaluated my mouth yet, (I had extracted molars, fillings , scaling, gingavectomy done before being able to go to ortho), my periodontist has not sent me back to my ortho yet. My concern for getting braces is that my jaw does pop on the right side although my wisdom teeth on upper and lower still exists (which my periodontist is going to extract) for future implant placement... on gettn braces my upper teeth really over lap my bottom teeth and I have buck teeth that thankfully are straight. I was wondering if after the braces have done their job will my bottom jaw stick out over my top jaw (making my chin poke out forward)...I just cant see how y top and bottom teeth could meet up comfortably after braces since they have never with the big over bite?? afraid I may look wierd?

Hi and welcome to this forum, I hope you find it helpful!

Please ask these questions of your ortho and surgeon, as they're the people who've got your x-rays and will do your treatment plan.

At your age your bones won't change without surgery, so where your jaws are now is where the will stay. Orthodontics for adults is about moving the teeth in the existing bone structure to create the best alignment and bite. If the orthodontist can see that the bone structure needs changing to correct the bite, then surgery will be recommended.

Good luck finding all the answers you need from the experts that are treating you.
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
