    Underbite with short roots

    I'm 19 this year.
I have gone through braces before when I was younger, but they didn't work because my jaws were still growing.
My only option now is to get the surgery done, but I was told by my ortho that I can't get braces because of my short roots. If I were to proceed to get braces, then there's a high chance that some of my teeth will fall out. I was extremely upset after hearing the news, so I couldn't question him anymore.

Now I'm here to ask are there any other options for me? Any hope in fixing my bite?

I'm sorry Seven7, but with short roots an ortho would be taking a dreadful risk to treat you. Short roots mean your teeth are already at risk of permanent damage and the teeth falling out. If pressure is put on these teeth, there is a further risk of root reabsorption, meaning the roots become even shorter and the teeth fall out more quickly.

Maybe you could check if there's any cosmetic work to help disguise your overbite. Please be careful before agreeing to any type of treatment, as your teeth are at risk.

    Take care!

That's unfortunate then but thanks for answering. :/ I have an underbite btw.
So if my teeth were to fall out in the future, can I get any work done with fake teeth?

Seven7 you need to talk to someone who works in the cosmetic industry to find out about things like this.

If your problem is related to bones, then surgery is possible, but without teeth to have brackets bonded to, to hold your bones (plates, screws etc) in place ... I'm not sure how that would be done. Maybe in the future it can be done using screws into your bones ... but they'd need to be able to hold very strongly in the bone without damaging the bone or gums. Also the next question would be how to provide enough pressure to be able to retain the bones in their new places.
