Surgery All done, my thougts and a question

    Hello..

Been a long journey, but the worst is done now.
    Had my surgery May 9.
Got my bottom jaw moved 11mm, top jaw broken down. Spent Many hours in surgery, and the wake up arear

Its in top of the worst things i ever experinced, but then again i always been afraid of hospitals.
I never see those shows that show sickness, ppl being cut up etc. Guess we all have something we fear.
Had nearly turned it down, but the doctor who did the surgery said it would make me super happy.
Seeing the result today, i can only say she was right. Im really happy about having it done.
Was really impressed about how good they were to make me feel more safe, even tho my heart was pumping like
i was out running everytime they had me in the chair.

I still use rubberbands to keep my jaw locked when i sleep, and my teeth surface is not making full contact yet.
But was told it was minor adjustment, they would fix with my braces.

My biggest concern is the weight loss i had, lost 10kg. I have a demanding job as a roughneck, and just had my first
14day hitch. Can see im not gaining any weight, and im really tired after 12 hours work Per day.

Anybody else having trouble gaining your strenght, weight?
Pls, share with me, what you did. Any advice is appreciated
Did start running a little again, but keep thinking im burning to many calories.

Even tho my troubles and fears, i still recommend this to ppl. Its worth the trouble.
Sry, for gramma and spelling. Its my second language

    Best regards

    Jan

I only had my surgery last week, so obviously haven't noticed any weight loss or anything yet, but I'll post anything I do to combat it.
Also, I'm not really surprised you're tired after 12 hours work every day!
It may sound obvious and you've probably done it, but can't you just eat more food? Increase your calorie intake?
    Good luck!

And yes Sarah you do get morphine - and loads of local anaesthetics in your face while you're under to make it numb when you wake up.

eeh there..Before my surgery I was 110 pounds only and I had the same problem than you...
Thought ive been lucky they had to remove my elastics after 2 weeks, so I have half a centimeter to open my mouth...but in total, I lost around 6-7 pounds only
I drink a lot of shakes, ensure (like 4-5 times a day) blending pasta and spaguetti with a lot of sauce on mixer (excellent "puree" lol)

By the way, after the surgeon told me I can retsart to eat food (like not to rough but you know to slowly go back on normal diet) I just ate like normal.

Now its almost been a year since surgery and im 8 pounds over my normal weight (im 118.4 pounds!) Have to admit I had a trauma with that diet so since I can eat again, I juste eat more than before lol

Dont worry, you wont lose so much!

Hey im new here I was researching more on this surgery and I am happy to hear what other have to say. I have gone to the doctors on three occasions about my anterior bite. Once at 12, next ,23 and now I am 25 .lol they say the would have to slit a slightly under my neck in order to fix my jaw. And that my face will look different.this for me was all scary to hear...and as silly as it sound I just wanted to wait to see if they would have a more subtle approach. Do you have any outside scaring? Could I see pictures before and after? Thanks.x
