Hey Ganesh! I'm going through something similar right now, so I hope I can give you a bit of advice..I'm 24 and have had braces (uppers anyway) since March 2010. I have a severe overbite, so much so that I just got my bottom braces 6 months ago yesterday..it took that long for enough space to be created for bottoms to be put on). I will likely need to be in treatment for 3 more years before I can get jaw surgery, so I will have had them for about the same amount of time as you when I'm ready for surgery. I wouldn't think that after five years in braces you'd need anymore treatment before surgery..I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to get it sometime in the next month or so. From what I've been told, once your teeth are settled into their proper places, you'll be surgery-ready. Just keep in mind I'm not an ortho and everyboyd's different, so make sure you ask them lots of questions at your consultation. (If they say you're not ready for surgery yet, ask them why; if they try to just use a bunch of ortho words that no one who's not an ortho understands, ask them to clarify, etc) If there's one thing i've learned after 20 months of not-so-great treatment (and all the consults I had in the years prior) it's that you can never ask enough questions. Best of luck to you! I hope you get that surgery by Christmas
