    Exclamation UnderBite&Braces

So hey everyone, my underbite isn't really that bad. It's like the two rows of teeth meet vertically so like its not exactly a normal bite, but my lower jaw also doesn't cover my upper jaw. So at around septemberish I went to china because my uncle knows some orthodontists that apparently are really good. What they said to me was that I get the surgery 2 years later and the surgery goes for 2 years over an extended period and I get my braces on AFTER the two year surgery procedure. But what I have read and seen from Australia is that the braces are put on about 6-12 months before the surgery then are kept on for about 2years after the surgery. I reckon that way is better but y uncle won't hear me out, he won't even talk to the dentists here about it, he keeps thinking his way is better. Please help? And also suggest which way is better; getting braces after the whole surgery OR getting the braces on at the time of the surgery.

Ps; the ortho/surgeon in china said that the reason to get the braces after the surgery is so that it doesn't mess up your jaw because once it aligns your jaw, te surgery will be even harder to perform and will take longer. He said its because Asian bones grow different to European/'white people' bones.

Also I have a slight crossbite.

I'll really appreciate it if someone could answer this )

I also have an "edge to edge" bite which is a class 3 under bite... not very fun to have your teeth hitting all the time like that...

Anyways, the most popular method is braces on before the surgery to straighten the teeth within the arch. Usually takes about a year depending on how your teeth are now...

Then you have the surgery, and then your ortho does the tweaks... usually 6 months to a year after that...

I'm going through this exact procedure and will have the srugery very soon.

I'd get more opinions if I were you..

    Good luck

I'd be getting a counter-consult in Australia including treatment costs. You might find that once you've factored in flight/accommodation costs involved in having surgery etc. in China, that there is not much difference between having the treatment there or in Australia. Plus, I'd be checking that cost of treatment in China is claimable against your domestic insurance or is, at least, tax deductible (that's if you're a tax payer in Aussie).

Finally, I'd be discussing your needs and wants with your parents, not your uncle (hope I'm not treading on a landmine here ).
