Questions about Ibraces

Has anyone had them or knows someone who has had them? How were the results? How bad was the speech affected?

a good friend of mine just got them on and is pretty happy so far... says that they take getting used to, however you would never know she has them on... I believe she got a ridiculous price though... her speech was quite slurred at first but not really any more...

My friend has ibraces. I don't know about results, because my friends still has them, but they do work as fast and as good as ones on front of your teeth.

Thanks. I am trying to decide if ibraces is really what I want to do. I have already been to the ortho and been quoted a price. I just don't know what I am really getting myself into. The speech being affected really bothers me. Should I take a week off? Do you think it would improve by then?

have you considered Invisalign? How do your teeth look now?

They said that that I could not do Invisalign because I have too much crowding. Any other suggestions?

I've not had lingual brackets, but have patients who do and there results are as good as with traditional brackets and they have the advantage of being the only invisable form of orthodontic treatment.

Speech is usually affected to some degree, but how much and for how long depends on the person. I have found (from talking to patients), that those who spoke the most, found their speech improved quickly. I'd definitely not recommend taking a week of work, as that's what people do when they're sick and getting braces is to improve your bite, not to fix being sick!

We have quite a few patients who wear ibraces on the top arch and ceramic on the lower arch. With most people, the lower arch is barely noticable and this is a good option as long as your bite is suitable for lower ceramic brackets.

If you're still uncertain of what to do ... please have more consults, until you find an orthodontist you feel confident with and can communicate easily with.

If I am getting braces it will be for sure the ibraces. I'm a teacher and really don't want to deal with ceramics. Being a teacher is another reason why I am concerned with my speech. I have a great ortho who has been doing lingual braces for a while now and he is great, but I'm still just really nervous about the whole behind the teeth aspect. Can you tell when you are kissing someone that they have ibraces? I know it is a weird question, but I was just thinking about my husband.

Sounds like you've found a great ortho, with loads of experience in what you want to do. Ask if any of his staff have had linguals and talk to them about their experiences.

Kissing with linguals will be noticeable if your hubby has a tongue that likes to explore. But they won't hurt him, as long as his tongue isn't aggressive! With 'straight on' kissing, you'd not be aware of a person with ibraces, as most people don't notice brackets on the front of the teeth.

If you're certain you want orthodontic treatment with linguals only, then hopefully before long you'll become more confident and this will be a great experience for you!
