So i just took xrays & got my ibraces ordered up. I am just waiting till they are made & sent to my ortho. I am getting ibraces on top and clear braces on the bottom. So i was wondering what i can expect when they are put on? Im hoping that since i am only getting them on top that my speech wont be too affected, does anyone have this experience? I would like to hear some general experiences from those who have ibraces on top and "regular" braces on the bottom. Anything helps. thanks!
Hey Big Cheese,
I just got my iBraces put on the top only today. I am getting the bottom ones put on in 2 weeks. I opted for ibraces on the top and bottom so I can only tell you about the top so far. I got them on about 4 hours ago and came straight back to work. No one at the office has said anything about my speech. I also called my mom on the phone and she asked me why I didn't get them on yet since she was expecting me to sound super funny. She didn't notice any speech difference at all. I notice it on the S's mostly but most people would never notice unless you tell them. I also have no pain so far, just a little pressure or tightness. I had braces when I was 12 years old but they were the regular type and I remember them hurting more than this. Let's hope this lasts. Also, I will say that I have a longer tongue than the average person and I have no scraping at all so far. Maybe it's because I am used to keeping my tongue further back in my mouth so I don't bite it or maybe I am just lucky. Either way, don't be nervous. I think it's great so far. Feel free to email me any questions. Good luck. Athena
Hey. I've had my upper lingual brace on for 13 days now & I have a cermaic (clear) brace on the bottom.
My speech was affected with the lingual & i'll be honest expect to sound weird (at least you won't be dissapointed then if you do). I read all these speech stories about people having problems but didn't think it would happen to me although it did worry me & I had doubts about if I had made the right choice because of all the stories.
People could understand me it wasn't a problem but I did struggle to get words out at the beginning. I sounded lispy at first & then a few days later I just sounded different to my normal self. I'd say I sounded like I had a brace or something in my mouth that's all. It did bother me though. I couldn't see how my speech would get back to normal & thought i'd never loose that brace sound. The lisp was none existant after a few days.
My speech now is fine & I actually sound like my old self. It took me a week to adapt. My speech sometimes slips. Like today for example isn't the best it's been & my tongue is sore again (not been like this for a while) think I need to drink more water though (really does help). But apart from that i've adapted now. I did forget they were there over the weekend to be honest.
I have a small mouth so thought i'd never sound like me again.
Any questions just ask :-)
