Exclamation IBraces Driving Me Insane (Social Effects)

I have had Ibraces for probabally two years. My teeth are somewhat close to being "finished" through the process. It has been a long two years. Sometimes I just get so excited to get these damn things off. They drive me insane. I can talk fine without the lisp and no one can see my braces yay. But I really wish some people could actually see them it would make me feel better.

Sometimes it feels like I am keeping a secret by not telling anyone and everyone knows that I am hiding something. I have been getting awkward when people come real close to my face and its inadvertant and making me shy from human contact. I used to love being around people but now I find myself becoming a hermit because I cant deal anymore. When I start talking people look eye to mouth eye to mouth and it looks like their trying to figure out what is wrong with my speech. Why I twist my mouth to get the words out correctly. Its driving my tounge fucking insane. I make weird swallowing so I dont spit on people and I cant deal with it anymore. These things make me want to kill myself. Literally its a fucking cage in my mouth that no one knows about. I want to escape from my body and I have to walk around with this damn secret. I wish I got regular braces. Its not worth the mind trouble. I hope it all gets better once they're off but I cant wait any longer.

If anyone has any tips or advice or encouragement it would help alot. I really need it now. I just want my ortho to take them off but my teeth are so close to being done I think I just dont know. Dont get Ibraces if your thinking about it. I wish I just had my crooked teeth. The cost of beauty is too high. You think by getting these its the easy way. but you pay dearly trust me.

Oh great! I'm getting these in a couple of weeks. Really worried now :-s
I'm just getting them on the top & ceramic on the bottom.

I don't understand though because you just said you can talk fine without the lisp & no one knows about your braces but then you go on to say you're having speech difficulities. Please explain

    Thanks

p.s - you've done a whole 2 years & you're nearly there now. What's another few weeks really. Hang in there

I just got my ibraces on this week. Having some experience with them I felt that it was necessary to register on this site to give my opinion about this.

Everyone will have a different way of dealing with keeping the ibraces public or private information. For me it was just easiest to come out and tell people who I am around frequently. I really don't think this will be a big deal for me at all. I'm very comfortable talking with the braces on already and I think it's something that shouldn't have to be kept a secret.

Ultimately, the ibraces are becoming a big part of my life and are changing a lot about my lifestyle. I think anyone that is I'm in frequent contact with I will end up talking about them anyways just because it is something I will be dealing with all the time. I'd say don't let one persons opinion on this make you change your mind about the ibraces.

lu lu please don't be worried! Most people go through their lingual braces treatment without anyone knowing and they don't care ... which is the way it should be. Orthodontic treatment is not about other people, it's about you and it's not something that other people need to know about or give opinions on.

Some people can become more sensitive about a variety of things, but that happens in all areas of our lives and luckily most mature beyond that and get over themselves.

Remember this is your decision and you're very lucky to have the choice! Good luck with your treatment!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!

Hahahhaha I do not wish the Ibraces curse upon anyone. Its fine sometimes but its horrid at others. Drives my tounge crazy thus drives me insane. Have fun Ibraces newbies THEY SUCK! Just wait till a bracket falls off and you cant get to your orthodontist and your stuck talking like a retard for a week.

Be as open as possible about letting people know. dont try to analyze other people if they can tell or what not. LET THEM KNOW

that is why try to get an orthodontist closer to where you live/work - saves time on constant visits.
aslo i found that mid apppoinment check ins (like broken braces etc.,) actually help to move the process forward. my doc usually makes some sdjustment in my mid appointment and then in the next one- so i think i get double push!)) I LOVE THE RESULTS!

My orthodonist is A-W-E-S-O-M-E. Got the linguals Monday and called on Wed cause they were driving me nuts... She called me Thurs. night to see if there was any change and gave me her home and cell number. That night I was messing with them when flossing and bent the end wire and when i tried to cut it it ended up not wanting to go back so was sticking straight into my mouth. I called her first thing Friday morning at home since the office was closed and she met me at the office, opened it up and fixed it for me.
She called me today to check on me. Things are better, def. annoying. But I'm no longer wanting to rip them off myself lol.

I'm going through the exact same thing--except, completely opposite. I have the traditional metal things, and am stuck in the same hell. Except where you feel like you're carrying around an awful secret you just wish you could show, I've got this horrible freaking mess i can't hide no matter how hard I try. I've been wanting to freaking kill myself ever since I got these put on, no joke. Plus I have impacted eye teeth in the roof of my mouth, so I have trouble with speech too.

I also used to be very outgoing, but now spend most of my time trying to avoid everybody. Even if I'm talking to someone really close to me, I can't look them in the eye, and I NEVER used to be like that. I've only had these on for 9 months and so far they haven't even WORKED at all, which only makes me regret all of this so much more. I'd take my old teeth in a second. This mess is POINTLESS!

Sorry, I really haven't given you any words of encouragement, just vented about my own mess...even if your teeth are really close to finished, maybe you could still get them off early? Even if they're not "perfect" yet, I think you'd be much happier than if you keep having all that crap in your mouth.

Uglii ... please go to your ortho and tell them what you've written above ... or email it to them and/or take a copy. You need help ... more than this type of forum can offer.

    Take care!

I have had incognito in for 3 months. I have crowns at the front and the brackets have come of about 6 times now I'f not more. I know what you mean when you say it feels like a cage in your
Mouth. My bottom teeth have chipped from grinding them into my braces at night as I have an overbite . I'm now wearing a mouth guard at night . in the next few months I'm having clear braces fitted on the bottom. I hate my teeth and hate my braces I'm constantly touching the braces with my Tongue and think about them 24/7. I'm
Hoping things get better but am so paranoid every day my brackets are going to fall of I'm constantly checking them arghhhh

Same exact issue. I have 6 crowns, and a bracket has come off about 8 times in 8 months. What finally solved it (sort of) was going to a stronger bonding glue. I think it's some old school hydrochloric acid bond. Ask if they can use that.

I wearing a hearing aid, which is an invisible disability. I get dirty looks all the time because people assume I hear them. When I catch it, I bluntly say I am hard of hearing, and most of the time the other person feels like a dipshit It took me years to get over it, and just explain to people that I have a hearing aid. You just need to nip it in the bud, and explain to people you have ib braces. I am 25 years old with ceramic braces, that's embarassing. LOL
