    Broken wire

    Hi guys,

I had my upper linguals a month ago and today I visited my doctor for the first adjustment.

The orthodontist told me that my wire broke, and it is too early to use a thicker one, he suggested we put it at the next visit, in one month and a half.

Therefore, he used the same one - it's now broken into 2 or 3 parts, and he says that if we order a new thin wire, it will arrive in a couple of weeks (?!?).

So practically, now my teeth in the front are linked with a wire (a piece of the old wire), but one canine is completely free, and the teeth in the back are all linked with the other 2 parts (one in the left side, one in the right).

Is this normal? Has anybody heard about this before? As the braces are on the back of my teeth, I only noticed when I got home, and I completely freaked out...

    Thank you for your thoughts...

Your ortho won't want you as a patient for one minute longer than is necessary, so he must be confident that where the archwire is active, it is doing the work required.

You could call your ortho's office and ask for reassurance. That would also give your ortho a chance to explain how your teeth are affected by this archwire being in pieces.

    Good luck!
After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
