My daughter played the flute and had braces bonded to the front of her teeth. She had to make a few adjustments, but continued to play well.
Good luck to your teen!
My teen is in need of braces. She is in the high school band & plays the saxophone.
I just wondered if anyone could give any advice on what type braces would be best for her?
She is not a candidate for invisalign, which is what she originally had wanted to get.
So should we get the traditional or the incognito braces? I see where either one may present some difficulties with her saxophone playing.
All information/opinions greatly appreciated!![]()

After 5 years, 11 months and two days of stainless steel brackets ... my teeth now have upper and lower bonded, gold wire, retainers and removable clear retainers!
I don't play sax, but I'm thinking that incognito braces wouldn't mess up her embouchure as much as traditional braces. It might affect her articulations but I'm guessing if it's just a high school band then articulation isn't exactly a top priority anyway (unless you're from Texas or Taipei...). With incognito she would likely still be able to properly position her lips around the mouthpiece. Also, incognito are not as visually obvious as traditional braces, which may be seen as a benefit by your teen.
Yep, in retrospect I'm pretty glad I chose percussion...
